2010 TL-SH AWD low frequency hum at 30 to 35 mph
2010 TL-SH AWD
Hello all (my first post).
This is a recent purchase (new). I have about 850 mi. on it. Between 30 and 35 I notice a low frequency hum. No vibrations, just sound. The steering wheel is solid, no shakes. Above or below that speed, quiet. It seems like a harmonic sound.
I took it into my dealer. I was told they test drove for 9 miles. They also, drove another of the same model. The rep told me they could hear it in both cars. I was told that Acura would be contacted about it.
However, the work order states:
"Tech test drove vehicle numerous times. Drove with Shop Foreman, Could not duplicate anything abnormal, only normal vehicle driving."
I am curious if this is a characteristic with the AWD or differential.

Search for this issue. I think it is under vibration, or something like that. For one owner it turned out to be a bad driveshaft.

I had posted about a noisy hanger bearing on the driveshaft on my 09 SHAWD. It started when I had about 10K miles on the car and would start to whine/hum at about 45 mph; went away at slower speeds. Took it to dealer and master tech road with me. Got out on the highway and he heard the noise. He opened the passenger door and listened outside. Said he knew what it was. Went back to shop and they put it up on the hoist and had someone in the car - ran it up to 45 and we stood underneath - sure enough noisy hanger bearing (front one). He said that it is pretty rare, but occasionally they see it on the MDX and the Honda AWD SUV. Said that the bearing doesn't fail, just develops a noise. They replaced the entire driveshaft and hanger bearing assembly.

Advanced
I did see a post on another site about this but around 60-70mph. In that situation the dealer changed something on the car and that fixed it. Sorry, but I can't find the page now. If I see it again I will post a link.

I purchased a 2009 TL SH-AWD in December 08 and had the same issue at low speeds (a hum). Dealer replaced the drive shaft at 7500 miles. At 35,000 miles the same type of noise started happening at higher speeds (60-70 mph). Service techs were clueless until it got loud enough for them to pinpoint it. They repalced the drive shaft at second time. In my opinion, a $40,000 automobile should not have this type of part failing twice in such a short period of time. Time to trade them lemon for a lexus. Four time honda owner will no longer buy Honda ever again.

I have been getting this whining noise ard 40-35 mph and also ard 75 mph, it is annoying as hello. two times, service has said it is normal, most likely from the awd system. Who cares, it is annoying as hell for a $40,000 car
