2010 TL - Removing trunk latch bolts

For the last few weeks, I've had to slam on my trunk lid multiple times to get it to latch/shut properly. But it does open just fine. The latch (attached to the trunk) seems to have loosened. Upon removing the liner I see that the two bolts (I think 10mm) holding the latch to the trunk lid have loosened quite a bit. But there seems to be a hard plastic cover that is blocking access to one of the bolts, and I can't figure out how to remove it/get it out of the way without removing it with brute force. I can't find instructions to remove the cover/bolts/latch for the 4G TL online.. Maybe I didn't look hard enough?

Anyone have any idea on how to remove the plastic "cover" to access the two bolts in the latch?

It is simply held on by the metal pins of the latch; you need to bend the plastic with a small screwdriver or a pick tool and slide the cover away.

Thanks. I actually noticed those spots earlier and did try to push those pins while trying to separate the latch away, but was unsuccessful. Maybe I didn't pull the latch with enough force I guess, but I didn't want to break anything. I will try this again tomorrow..

I knew this had to be simple enough.

This beauty cover, like clips, is considered disposable and must be replaced after removal, so if you are concerned about aesthetic changes after removal, then replace this cover, fortunately it is cheap.

Success! Just needed to put a bit more force on those pins and pull the cover slightly harder... and it was out! I was able to snap the same cover back in place just fine.. It probably doesn't look pretty if looked at closely, but for now it's now out of sight, out of mind. I might replace it if I ever decide to sell my TL (or if it decides to give me issues again).

I do appreciate your help!
