Ross' 2012 TL Progress Thread"

Hi all! I'm rather new to the Acura family. Got a '12 TL Tech in Nov '11 and decided to trade in for a '12 Tech AWD in October. I had the body kit on the last one and am going to have it put on this one the Monday after Thanksgiving. Just had the front grill and back chrome strip done for $100 at a hole in the wall place. They did a great job as far as I can tell and much better than the $240 I got quoted from a nicer place in town.

Enough said...Here come the pics!

I tried some black and white pics like Zelaya, but mine didn't come out near as good. Figure I'd share them anyways!

Looks great. That price of 240 is right on for a job that would most likely out last what you paid for. More then likely they just scuffed and shot them. Those parts need to be epoxy primed. Good luck. Looks nice!

THanks Nexson.I agree about the job. I was going to pay the $240, but a co-worker of mine sorta convinced me into this place. They sanded, primed, base, and clear coated, but they didn't take the grill off which made me rather nervous. I dont know the quality of the primer / paint they used. So if worse comes to worst I will take it to be done for $240.

Looking forward to seeing your progress on Monday, while i was waiting for an oil change at the dealership i walked around the showroom and they have a CBP Tl with the skirt package, couldn't help but admire it.I feel that it really make the car look aggresive but not overdone.

Thanks Zelaya, your thread has been a big help for visuals!

What do you guys think of these rims?

Anyone good at photoshop and can make a pic of these on a tl? haha

I gotta make a trip to Orlando next month and am thinking of picking these bad boys up along the way. What do you guys think?

Thanks AnyBoo

So as I promised here are a few pics w/ the kit on. Was a LONG day. Didn't get home until 7, so the pics suck. I will wash and post better pics tmrw if there is enough light. If not I may have to wait till the weekend.

Sorry camera isn't the greatest and photobucket seems to have made the pics much darker. More to come!

Sorry...no pics until this weekend. It's too dark when I get home from work to wash and get any decent pics.

I decided to pull the trigger on some Opti-coat like Potmilkz is doing. I've been reading all day yesterday and today about it. This is gonna be fun and will be nice to do while my car is still newish (idk how long it was on the lot for.)

Will most likely be doing this next week as I will be off work for knee surgery (torn meniscus...damn military work outs ). Will take my time and post updates as I can!

Washed the car before my surgery. Been able to get around somewhat today. Got a few pics w/ the kit on. Still not great pics...couldn't find the GFs good camera.

Opti-coat comes in today along with some M105-205. Going to clay the car right now before it gets here. Already have some good scratchX and polish to follow up with before the Opti-Coat gets applied!

Pre clay-swrill-scratch-polish-opticoat pics:

It looks lovely! I love the mods to the front grille with chrome outlier and the larger rims adds soft beauty. It is molding together nicely!

Waiting on my microfiber towels to finish up in the wash and then i'm going to apply the Opti-Coat. Good weather out. Here are some pics of my car all polished up.

Here is a picunder intense light to show how clear the hood is from swril marks etc..So clear it's like a mirror :o. Still need to run over w/ some IPA to remove any substance left behind from the polish. When I look hard enough at the pic I can see some trace residue.

Yeah it was just the hardened powdery residue from all the 105 205 and polishing. It was all clear after the IPA step.

Will bet some pics up tmrw

All done with the Opti Coat for now! Here are some long awaited pics w/ the Opti Coat and lip kit on. Application was easy. As for the protection it adds, I am skeptical. It does look like it will lock in the shine which is good. They claim there is no point in applying the opti coat multiple times as it doesn't bond with its self. I don't think that's entirely true. I've been testing it on the side molding i removed from my car when I first got it and it is starting to elevate slightly on the ½ I applied to opti coat to. Regardless, I don't have much use for the 13-14 cc I have left, so I'm going to continue to apply it a few more times. If anything at least i'll fill in the spots I possibly missed.

If you accidentally leave some high spots it can be polished off easy. I had a few minor spots I had to fix this morning. Dab some polish on a cloth rub it in (not hard), IPA, and re apply the opti coat.

This first pic is just an example of how easy it is to see the high spots when applying the opti coat.

Thanks AnyaBoo for the nice comments!...but believe me I'm no pro when it comes to car stuff. I do enjoy detailing my cars and definitely took my time with this project. I got the idea to Opti Coat from Potmilks thread and it's definitely a good DIY project.
