New member intro. '09 SH Tech
hey guys, i finally joined, i was a lurker till now. I bought the car in June 2009, my first auto car. Plans for this car is to make it a great daily driver, and plan to add a toy car as soon as finances permit.
it has the tech package, it's grigrio on umber. Has been trouble free except for a yaw sensor, which was replaced under warranty and now this annoying audio problem (which i posted in audio section)
besides the minor 2 issues, i love this car. Very comfortable, i love the way it looks and drives.
My plans are full exhaust, i know xlr8 and atlp and ct eng. are working on their models.
So whoever offers the best sound/performance etc will get my money
i plan on J pipe, some high flow cats and a cat back exhaust.
I want to get an intake also, but will wait for the comptech ice box.
Suspension, not too much options out, h&r springs, but i'd like coilovers and eventually a nicer set of wheels.
I guess i'll update this thread as i go along. Any suggestions on tint? should i go with the green or blue ish tints.

Welcome to Azine!
Nice color combo. That was on my list, until I found out they don't have that combo in the 6MT version. Guessing your in Canada by looks of the headlight washers. (Wouldn't have minded those either)

i don't want to go to crazy on the car, it adds up quick, next thing you know you have 10 000$ of mods
rather put that money towards another car and keep this thing dead reliable and comfortable for my needs.
i think lowered, with full exhaust (j pipe, hfc, cat back) intake will make the car a lot more fun to drive. and hopefully someone comes out with a tune for this thing.
anybody else notice the dip in power between 4000 and 5000 rpms?

what do you guys think of these wheels, if i were to get some wheels, i'm going big or going home, might as well make the car stand out.
same look, or with painted face and chrome lipe, in 20 inch.

That is absolutely my favorite color! Except for when my CBP has been freshly detailed and clean (I'll let you know when that happens).
As for tint color, I'm not a fan of those ones that are greenish or blueish..etc... I think black would look good, but I love my Huper Optik. It's the ESC type of HO, and it has a great silvery reflective surface, gives the car a very classy look to it.
Congrats and Welcome to the club!

Not bad at all. But keep in mind with AWD you won't be able to go with a staggered look. I believe that messes with the sh-awd system.

all 4 wheels and tires will be same size, just hard to get photo shopped properly.
The local tint place says the black tints are old tech, the new bluish and greenish are ceramic
i didn't like the way they looked, i'll keep searching.
i just want my j-pipe and hfc's and drop for now, hopefully by end of march most of these items will be available

Black dyed or metallic is old tech... but I've seen black ceramics before. They are available. Get some brand names from your tint place.

ill have to find a new place, this place is your generic auto chain for tints and car starters and windshield repairs.

thanks man, your car looks great, not sure if those wheels would suit my car. so hard to decide, do you plan on lowering your car? i think it would make the wheels stand out even more

Sadly... it's already on the list... My winter tires are back on until April, but it will be lowered before I put them back on.
Sadly only because I wasn't going to spend more money on my car till the summer... oh well.

Vossens? I've been dying to see a 4G with some VVS083's. That was actually my 1st choice for wheels, but they are a tad pricier than the RJ's, and it's not like the RJ's are cheap to being with.

Ohhh, very excited now... Can't wait to see them.
I've told myself I'm not putting my Legend II's back on until it's lowered... Should have the springs in a week or two.

got email that everything ships out wednesday, coming from Miami so the following week i guess, which i don't mind honestly, gives time for the roads to clear up.
i hope some news comes out for exhaust parts, this is a joke how long it's taking, i would love to get everything done at the same time. it's like a whole new car.

(go to last sentence for conclusion if you don't want to read this)
First of all, cars come from the factory with the wheel size, offset and wheel width selection based on how the engineers intend for the car to handle.
A true fact in this day and age is that almost all cars come from the factory biased towards a fair deal of understeer. For those of you who don't know what understeer is, it's when you're driving too fast going into a turn, the car's front suspension becomes loaded and it makes the front end "plow." This effect limits the speed a car can turn in a corner because the front end begins to dive, and the front tires start scrubbing off the speed. Even a novice driver can predictably figure out how to eliminate understeer, and that's by letting off the gas, and the car will begin steering like normal again once that excess speed is lost.
Oversteer, is when a car goes into a corner too fast and the rear end begins to lose grip first and starts rotating first. This is what old schoolers call "fishtailing" and what newschoolers call "drifting." Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) cars tend to oversteer, because they have more weight in the rear than most FWD or AWD cars, this makes it easy to get the rear end to rotate. It takes a skilled driver to understand how to correct oversteer more than it does to understand how to correct understeer.
It is also a known fact, that the way you get your car to UNDERSTEER more, is to add larger wheels to the rear. With a larger contact-patch for the tire in the rear, it's going to grip the road far better than skinnier front tires, meaning in a turn, the rear won't break free as easy as the front and the car will plow into turns more (this makes it less sporty feeling, and more like driving a Buick). By the way, cars that run staggered rims will also hurt the amount of lateral G-forces that car can create. A Nissan 350Z with 10" rims in the rear and 8" rims in the front will turn maybe a .85g, but put 8" rims all around and all of the sudden, you've got a full 1.00g car! That's just physics though.
So now let's look at the AWD TL, the car has a sophisticated AWD setup that computer controls how the car is going to act in a turn. The computer comes loaded with the knowledge of the width of the tire, the rim size and how it's all going to act in a turn. It will feed torque to each wheel based on that knowledge that all 4 wheels are the same size and that the car will have excellent stability because they spent days and weeks programming the AWD system to react to all different driving styles as safely as possible.
Now you're going to throw in staggered fit rims... Which means the AWD system might feed a rear wheel more torque expecting it to put the power down in the predictable fashion of an 8" wide rim. The computer knows the limits of that rim and somewhat of that tire and when it expects the other wheels on the car to begin losing traction. But now you've messed with the rim width in the rears and now power is being fed to a wheel that grips more than was intended. Who knows how the car is going to react in that instance?
My hypothesis is that if you put 10" wide wheels in the rear and 8" wheels in the front, then you're going to go into a corner thinking that your AWD is going to bail you out at the speed you're entering, only to find the front end of the car to take a nose dive and probably wiggle around alot while doing it. Now your "cool" move ends up making those behind you laugh at your brand new car that lurches around fast corners.
FWD cars putting staggered rims in the rear will also increase their understeer, but won't have a car that wiggles and lurches thru the turns because power isn't being supplied to the rear wheels so they just stay stuck to the road in the back and will really bog the car down in turns.
So in conclusion: Putting staggered rims on an AWD TL will make your handling suck when you take the car to 8/10th's and beyond. Putting staggered rims on a FWD TL will also make your handling suck more, but at least you won't look all goofy going into a turn like you would with the AWD.
