As much as I don;t care for the 4G, I love my Type-S ride and corning and if the SH beats that maybe the looks will grow on me...

The SH-AWD car does indeed have a slightly stiffer suspension (sports suspension) over the base car but that alone doesn't explain the huge difference in cornering capabilities. The AWD car has torque vectoring which accounts for much of the improved handling......in a turn, the outside wheel with the most traction spins faster which results in a quicker and more precise turn. Also, when launching from a stop, there's no torque steer or wheel spin like the FWD car. Trust me, you have to test drive both versions of the 4G to know what I'm saying.

Great looking ride man! I had our AWD demo on the highway the other day and this dude in his 09 TSX almost sideswiped a few cars trying to get a closer look...of course I did not let that happen as I dropped down a gear and shot out of his view in seconds. What a rush this TL gives you!

Is there any difference in size in the hump on the back floor board of the AWD vs FWD? I know that there is less trunk space due to extra drive train but what about the drive shaft going to the rear of the car?

Hey AMROCKS, I know you asked Pete this but let me jump in here because I had that very question. I have a family of 5 and I am coming from a 2005 3G TL and decided to get a 4G. One of the determining factors as to whether or not I got the SH-AWD was going to be the transmission tunnel.

The short answer is that I got the SH-AWD. Yes it is more intrusive but not overly so. Compared to the Audi A4 which basically does not allow for 3 in the back the TL in both forms is expansive. The bigger issue is that the rear seat bolsters on the sides are more pronounced in the SH-AWD. More of a "bucket seat" if you will. This creates more of a perch for anybody in the middle in the back. So in going to the 4G in both cases you go from more a "bench" in the 3G with the SH-AWD a little more "perchy" in the middle seat and the transmission tunnel hump more pronounced. But not overly so. Offset by generally a bigger 4G back seat.

My 3 kids 13, 11 and 9 - 2 girls and a boy were fine with the SH-AWD back seat and nobody was too much on anyone else's "side of the car".

I pick up my new TL first week of December.

Cheers,

Nice car. Me personally, I am waiting for the 6MT to be out next summer or fall. I can no longer stand driving any AT vehicles. Car looks nice, good choice of color, you will never know whether the car is dirty or not lol

congrads! were you able to negotiate a good deal or the Acura dealer wasn't dealing at all on the 09 TL yet because it's so new? is that lip spoiler standard or an option?

love the brick driveway too man.

Looks like the quality of the paint job is MUCH better than the 3rd generation. All of the '09s I have seen at the dealership and in pictures look deep, rich and a lot less orange peel than the previous model.

LONG overdue IMO.

It's just the new colors. The paint is still thin. Don't ask how I know.

Hey xrays, Acura of Peabody just got 4 more SH-AWD TL's sent to them. They should have them by the end of this month or early in December.

I LOVE that steering wheel...so much better than the 3G wheel. Should've been like that for the TL-S!

Who's gonna be the first to mod a 4G steering wheel for a 3G?

PetesTL,

I dorve a 4G SH-AWD today and can instantly see why you upgraded so quickly, the car is noght and day different from regular 4G TL, styling still will keep me away, but the ride is amazing!

Thanks, Keith. Congrats on finally taking the plunge on that test-drive. At least I have 1 non-4G owner now who can back me up when I describe the handling capabilities of this car. Initially, I wasn't all esctatic about the looks either...but to me, that wasn't a deal-breaker compared to all the positives about the car. Be patient, Keith, hopefully in the near future there will be a TL that will be the Complete Package that you desire.

I was driving by Acura of Boston yesterday and swung in to see what they had. They had one AWD in the showroom that I could see driving by the window and another four outside. All the ones outside had the regular 18" wheels and I think two were non-tech's. They had a Black/Umber Tech, that was beautiful, and a Basque Red Tech/Blk that was also hot. Have a fun test drive!

Grille should be painted.

I know others think you shouldn't paint it but I feel it stands out way too much.

Clean car.

Painting the grill is not recommended by whom? That just makes no sense? The TL in the showroom that I took was already replaced by a TL with the grill and bumper already painted, so I'm pretty sure it's not going to be an issue when turning the car in unless it's painted something odd like pink?

every time I see the 4G TL, I start to like it more and more, and then.....someone shows a picture of the back...

sorry, but the back design of the 4G is just the most horrendous design I've ever seen....

otherwise, it's a ballsy looking car.

You'll feel that way until it's in your garage, and then you release the hate, and embrace the grace! I truly love the back of this car. My old 05' TL was so little and inferior to this new bad boy! And I only have the FWD tech pack! It just feels like a $60,000 car to me.

i love the rear; just not the beak :o
anyhow, no hate here; it's a great car i would get if i had the money.
either you are negative equity or you got one hell of a trade-in deal. i did the same when i had an 06 TL and got an 07 TL-S a few months later. gonna pay this one off
