I just installed the EXLR8 V2 J-pipe and after a few blocks of driving I noticed the floor vibrate where the j pipe is located at when I accelerate heavily or turn while accelerating. I can hear a vibrating noise too as well.

Is there a reason for this?

 

Same here. Had it installed last week and have the same issue.

Guys,you need to check the clearance between the J Pipe and the sump as well as between the cross member,make sure there is adequate space.As you accelerate the car there is movement of the engine and exhaust.

I had a similar issue with the RV 6 J Pipe,i had to use a 3/8" spacer under the removable cross member (support brace).Looking at it originally,it seemed that there was enough clearance but the addition of the spacer resolved my issue.

Another thing to check for is the rubber mount on the J pipe,i found the rod that is welded to the J pipe is too low and it put a lot of stress on the mount causing it to snap,this then causes the j pipe to drop and it then rubs on the cross member.I resolved this by bending the rod up a bit.

When I did the Rv6 I forgot to install the spacers. Don't have any issues and a friend of my has the xcellerate one. I gave him the spacers and it cured his problem. Only very light buzz from flooring it from a dead but once it's moving it goes right away. Might need to be spaced a tad bit more.

They actually look like tubing about 3/8 thick. You can go to your local hardware store and get some washers, or the thick fender washers and stack a few together and that will do it

 

^Nuts would work as well. Just figure out how much you need to space it and the thickness of the bolts. I know you could reuse you stock bolts with the spacers RV6 provided with their J-pipes. I believe they are around 3/8"

 

Yea, the RV6 comes with spacers for the cross member but not the exhaust mount, I stuck some washers under those two bolts to space the hangar down.

 

I have the XLR8 Jpipe..I hope the spacers/washers work. I wonder if they will chime in on this...

 

Mine does the same damn thing but really only when I am sitting stationary and it gets worse with cold weather.

 

The first batch of RV 6 J pipes did not have any spacers, after I made a post about it way back he started to include the spacers, also the newer batch does not have the hanger rod.

I also put some washers under the two bolts of the hanger bracket that mounts to the car as you mentioned.

Regardless which J Pipe you guys are running the issue is most likely related to metal to metal contact,check your clearance all around.

 

Might also be that the rubber hanger that connects the Jpipe to the frame is broken or worn? When I bottomed out once, I tore it and that cause a lot of vibrations.

 

First thing you need to do is make sure there is no metal on metal contact, either from the j-pipe to the car or the j-pipe to a hanger, or the j-pipe to runners, etc. Many people don't pay attention to alignment when installing the j-pipe. You may have to move the j-pipe a bit to the right or the left a couple mms.

 

I double checked and looked under while on a lift and there were no metal to metal contact present but I did see minor scratch marks where the metal bracket right under the j pipe is.

Did you guys space out the support bracket right under the jpipe? What did you guys space?

 

I had it installed this weekend and the mechanic corrected it with some spacers and drove it all weekend with no issues or vibrations.

 

Do you know what exactly he spaced out?

Yes, the crossmember is right under the j pipe.Actually all the info you are asking for is already in the posts above provided by myself and other members.3/8 spacers will work well.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I'm having some of the same issues after installing the xlr8 jpipe v2. Did any of you experience a vibration at idle while in drive? I notice this after the car warms up and I'm coming to stop the car vibrates until I start to drive again than its fine, once in park to neutral all seems normal.

 

I would take a look underneath the car to double check but it sounds like the J-Pipe may be contacting the crossmember for you as well. The 3/8 spacer should do the trick.

 

Added the spacers, the pipe was hitting the oil pan ever so slightly, I could see some marks, did some adjustments, everything seems fine now!
