Who here gets a CEL with PCD?

Hey guys,

With KTuner coming out with a tune for our cars I thought that this would be the best time to go with either pre cat deletes or high flow cats before I have my car tuned. My question is who here runs a check engine light with PCD? I know RV6 came out with a new defoulers and I was wondering if this solved the issue of creating a check engine light. This is probably the main factor that has kept me away from these PCD. I know the power increases are of the best for our cars and with a tune recently coming out, I figured this would be a smart performance mod. Everyones experience will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone

Do PCD's cause rasp when running V2 j pipe with stock mufflers?

I don't mind cold start rasp but can't tolerate it if it's a permanent sound.

I honestly think V2 J Pipe + CT icebox is just the perfect sound. It just sounds so refined yet aggressive if going WOT to redline.

I'm thinking PCD only to maximize gains from K Tuner. The J37 will probably want to bust thru the 7,000rpm redline with PCD/J Pipe combo.

Not sure how recently Richie came out with the new defoulers that you mentioned. However, I am aware that he did one a few months after the release of the PCD's and apparently those still had issues.Perhaps you can contact him directly and inquire.

I can tell you that the HFPC with the Takeda intake triggered a CEL (running rich) under hard acceleration when the car is not properly warmed up.However, changing the intake to stock or to the IceBox did not trigger this condition.

Personally, I am very happy with the RV6 J Pipe with third cat delete/RV6 HFPC and the IceBox. Not to mention that the exhaust sounds really well with that combo.

Currently, the MAF readings are off with the IceBox so we cannot see the full effect of the IceBox, the stock ECU program is making corrections to compensate (hence no CEL) but once tuned by a tuner these readings will be corrected and the car and mods will perform optimally.
Keep in mind that the PCD's will produce rasp, smell of raw gas etc,and most likely fail emission if you have a CEL and live in an emission state. With the HFPC you won't have to worry about those issues.

I have an appointment on Friday evening to have my car custom tuned on a dyno and will share some info after that.

Looking forward to seeing your results as well! How are the gains from the HFPC? Were they definitely noticeable and do you think they're similar to the PCD? I want to make sure it's worth it for $500

I cannot comment of the PCD's,my personal choice is to give preference to the HFPC.

The better exhaust note is an added bonus. I feel that the combo of the HFPC / J Pipe with 3rd cat delete /IceBox is the best bang for your buck mod.

Last Question, is it dangerous to drive around with PCD due to not having any cats?

haha a lot of questions. Not sure about the running rich part but if you are planning to tune your TL. It will be fixed anyway with a proper tune. The smell of raw gas you could smell if you're in the garage maybe or during warm up but not under normal driving. The real danger of running PCDs is towards the environment.

We've had customers find success with 02 spacers, but it really depends on your situation. If you have PCDs with spacers, but you have to pass a visual inspection for emissions in your state, you'll most likely still fail since your precats will be missing. HFPCs are your best option but even then it's not a guaranteed pass for emissions.

I just passed emissions a fue weeks ago so I'm good for two years with that. I just recieved my RV6 PCD's and the product looks great. Everything was packaged very well to avoid damage. Looking forward to installing these PCD's this weekend and then I'll report back with the results. Just hoping I don't get a CEL If anyone has any tips for installing that would be appreciated. Thanks again guys.

Have you installed the PCD?
What is your setup as I'm very curious how PCD sound with stock exhaust + J pipe with no 3rd cat + intake.

I am going to order PCD but concerned about RASP under hard acceleration

How did the tune go? I notice you might be the only one who has a K-Tuner with the icebox combo....

Definitely not the only one with that combo.

I did not do the Dyno tune as planned, instead I did an E Tune via Kenny @ TurboGixxer since he is familiar with our platform.

The car runs great, picks up much better, seamless VTec transition, proper air/fuel ratio, less engine knock and misfires. I would highly recommend the tune to anyone who has done bolt on mods,it is the only way to ensure that all your mods are working in harmony with each other and that your engine is performing optimally.

I am really happy this tune came out because I can certainly tell you that doing bolt on mods alone is not as effective as you believe.

Thanks.
I am definitely going the turbogixxer e-tune route and have spoken to him.
I have icebox and xlr8 long tube J pipe currently.

I'm doing PCD of HFPC next and then finally ktuner and e-tune.
For some reason, I really want to do PCD especially since ktuner offers O2 sensor disable. It's just the rasp under hard acceleration that turns me off PCD.

You are right about sound quality. The icebox and long J pipe sound great together. The HFPC must add to that nice mellow tone. No drone!!

The HFPC does add some more tone, mostly noticeable during acceleration not during idle.

Your choice with the PCD vs HFPC, there is a slight rasp with the HFPC, expect the PCD to be a lot worse. The difference in power between the two is negligible.

One thing to keep in mind, when doing the E Tune you will be doing the datalogging, you will have to do several WOT pulls, keep an eye on your oil level.

Suspekt360.....got to tell you that Kenny will continue to do revisions to the tune until he is completely satisfied with what he is seeing on your logs. The E Tune offers you an opportunity to be involved in the process, enjoy it!!

Thanks.
I'm gonna ask Kenny his opinion on the PCD/HFPC issue and then make a choice. Probably will end up with HFPC.
