I am looking to buy a ktuner from a local guy off craigslist, I have a 2009 4th gen TL. would it be ok to just get the tuner that was for his vehicle although we have the same vehicle but different years and possibly different modifications.

 

Yes, but you do need to make sure he unlocked it from his ECU. There are instructions on kTuner's website & youtube; and you should verify that it is unlocked (plugging it into computer/running kTuner) before you hand over the cash.

 

Have him at a minimum produce a screenshot showing the unit has been unlocked. Better yet, do what rainydays suggested It won't work with your vehicle if it's still tied to his old ECU.

 

Bring a laptop or have him bring one and have him unlock it in front of you, its quick and easy. He should have a laptop readily available for this if he was tuning, unless if he had a dyno tune.
