Intake Options

Hi Everyone,

I've had my TL for just under a month, so I apologize if this has already been asked a thousand time over, but what are the options for intakes?

So far, the only thing I can find is the Takeda short ram intake--are there any cold air intakes out there? Or does anyone know if one is going to be released soon?

Also, for those that have the Takeda short ram intake: how is the sound and performance?

Thanks in advance for any information!

Start by reading this thread here.

I love mine. The sound is great. You only hear it when you get on it and it is quiet as stock when you are not into it. Personally noticed a pick up in performance. Woke the car up in that it feels more responsive.

I added the Takeda and I only noticed a deeper intake sound, when you step on it, I cant say its faster. I do like the cold air induction concept, looks good under the hood, so no regrets.

Response

Thanks for the replies everyone =) I just ordered the Takeda Intake; I appreciate your comments, it made the decision a bit easier.

Thanks again.

^ How do you remove the resonator?

two hours of anger and frustration lol. If you remove the fron bumper you will see the resonator on the driver side in front of the wheel well.It is held on with two bolts, but then the brake duct is held to it with two bolts. Then you have to finagle, yes finagle, the resonator away from the duct which will result in a couple of broken tabs regardless of how careful you are. Then you have to manage to shimmy the duct that goes from the resonator to the air filter box. Once you get that your half way done lol. Then you have to shimmy the duct that goes from the resonator to the intake behind the grill. That was the hardest.

All of that removed resulted in a great sounding intake, and an increase in throttle response. The car had a hesitation issue that I thought was normal. Thats now gone and drives like it should. It is seriously faster than it was and its not my mind thinking it is because of the intake sound. I was blasting my music in my car when driving home and its much more responsive than it used to be. I cant wait for the test pipe

Sorry if this has already been asked but doesn't the car come from the factory with a cold air intake? (I understand it may be baffled, etc., but I thought it draws air from in front of the radiator?)

This is where the resonator connects to the ducting. I reinstalled the resonator only because it holds the brake ducting and there is no way the duct would stay in pace without the resonator. The resonator does not block any air or have any adverse affect on the intake when the ducting is removed.

This is how it looks when you open your hood and you see the intake scoop sitting there. The ducting goes under the battery and try and loops out to the side in front of the wheel well then back up to the air box.

Looks a little restrictive to me

Sure if you consider that up there a CAI, all in all its about 4 feet long and the diameter changes and there are way too many bends for the air to flow freely. Removing the resonator provides the same concept as the Takeda intake.... short ram.

I removed all of what you see up there. The intake resonator is now obsolete other than the fact that it has the mounting bolts and holes that hold the driver side brake cooling duct. If it werent for that, the resonator would be sitting on the shelf with the ducting.

There is no air going through the resonator at this point, it is only installed on my car as a support bracket for the brake cooling duct.

wouldn't that actually bring cold air into the air box more directly than to remove it?

Think of a snorkel. Is it easier to breath out of a short straight snorkel or a long bendy snorkel. No matter how much air is being drawn through that ducting, the engine has to work harder to make use of that air.
