Dual Exhaust Tips Only

I love the look of the dual exhaust tips over the factory setup. Can you have a shop cut off the factory tip and weld on dual tips? I only want this for the look, not performance. There is about 7 inches from the back of the muffler to the end if the bumper. Can this be done? Would it look cheesy?

Well there's only one outlet on the stock mufflers...I guess in theory you could cut another hole and weld on the tip but since the stock outlet is in the middle that may look weird. You might try looking for something like this:
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...cid=productads

I'd definitely go bigger than that though. I'm planning on installing some magnaflow mufflers tomorrow with quad tips.

you will need a single outlet to dual.. our cars are not actually quads.. they are just duals..

the atlp exhaust i have is quad.

All the tips I see are usually 10 inches long. We only have 7 inches of space to work with.

I've been looking everywhere for the TL SH-AWD tips but no luck. So I just ordered these. I'm going to bring them to a custom muffler shop and cut the curved single outlet and weld a new straight outlet. These should fit. I really like the look of them. I'll keep you posted.

sorry.. but to be truthfully honest.. those will look HORRIBLE on the 4g.. just trying to tell you before you make the mistake of chopping up your exhaust tips..

check on dragonwangs custom exhaust.. he used magnaflow muffler with dual mangaflow exhaust tips.. cost about 300 or so

+1 I agree with pot, those would look hideous on a TL.

If I decide to pull the trigger on a ATLP Cat Back system with Resonators, how much louder is the car from the inside? If I'm cruising in the highway at 70 MPH, is it much louder? I would purchase the system for an FWD TL

There is some drone, but it is not too bad. I'm very noise sensitive and really dislike loud noise, but after a couple of weeks of breaking in, the ATLP exhaust is not bad. It has a nice low grumble at idle if you are outside the car. Inside the car cursing around at 2000 - 2500 rpms is not bad at all. Running it up through the gears it sounds great. The only place I don't like is around 2500 - 3500 rpms when I'm heading up a long hill for an extended time... this is where the drone drives me a little nuts. Everyone who I have had in the car who are sports car enthusiasts love it. My buddy with an STI said that he can't get an exhaust on his car until the make one that sounds like the ATLP (all the STI exhausts are too loud for him). Hope that helps.

i can tell you from experience... that i hate how loud the take off sounds like.. i have a resonated one and with the windows slightly down... you can hear it pretty loud.. at a cruising speed of 65-70mph, the exhaust is pretty much nonexistent..

at a cruise aat a steady rpm, you wont hear it as much.. only when you gas it is when you hear it loud..

so it works out.. i have no problem with it as i always have my windows up and music on high.. but it is all based on personal preference.. i do love how it sounds like when you first fire it up... sounds like a beast.

Well I went through with it. I had them put on. Doesn't look bad at all. I know some of you won't care for it.

-____________-.. it looks more like your oem tips than anything else..

but hey if you like it.... then cudos to you

just a thought.... if you happen to purchase the oem lip kit.. i would certainly think those exhaust tips would not fit the oem rear lip..

It looks good on a FWD TL. It's just not aggressive-looking enough (like the big quad circulars) on the AWD TL.

Looks good. I don't see anything bad about it, looks almost identical to the OEM AWD tips.

Thanks everyone for the compliments.

Potmilkz I didn't even think of that. That was my next project adding the lower lip kit. Do you know what the width is on the rear lip where the exhaust opening is?

i am not exactly sure.. but judging from the width of those tips.. i can certainly say that the oem lip will not fit on those.. and if it does.. the lip will probably touch the exhaust tips or your going to have a lot of extra open spaces or gaps.

also the round corners will not go well with the rear lip design.. i mean quad circle exhaust tips look good like the atlp where it is spaced correctly but for the ones you have, it will look weird.

example of a fwd with oem kit.

id say when you get the rear kit, weld on the oem exhaust tips on before you put the rear lip on.. or your going to have a hell of a time getting the bumper back on the car.

Would something like these tips work and look good? I was thinking you could have an exhaust shop cut the old tips off and weld these on. They are staggered, the outlet is only 3.5 inches. Looking for opinions!

aim for 4 inch tips.. 3.5 inch is small

there was a member here that got the comptech exhaust and he even felt that the tips were too small.

i have atlp exhaust and i can say 4 inche tips is perfect.

I have the CT Engineering axle back exhaust and it comes with 3.5" tips,i feel that it is a bit on the small side,my preference would be to have them at 4",there are pics on my build thread on the link below.
