Custom J-Pipe and Test Pipe

Dropped off my car to a local exhaust company, i'm the first new gen TL they're doing, so by tomorrow i'll have my j pipe and test pipe installed and i should be picking up the car by noon.

I went with these guys as they are local, well known, and offer a lifetime warranty on the product.

Cost wise it would be the same as ordering jpipe and test pipe from vendor + shipping+duties+exchange rate+install. So i'm probably saving 100$, i'm very excited to see what happens on my first drive tomorrow.

Hope i'm not disappointed.

Was going to order the takeda too, but haven't been too sure about it, so might get an intake made from these guys too, or order the comptech unit when available.

i love this car, just needed that tiny boost in power.

i'll post impressions tomorrow, maybe pics too if i can get under the car

Looks awesome - for the love of god will you take some audio/video clips when you're done. I've been dying to hear any of these new exhausts.

^yeah seriously. I dont know what the deal is on the audio clips but its ridiculous. Im thinking of starting with the HFC and going from there. I dont want to do an entire exhaust setup as it may sound crappy especially with the j pipe and HFC.....

I'm not worried about it sound crappy, but I do want to know what I'm going to get before I drop 2k on a whole setup.

hey guys, got some more pics for you.

So j pipe+ test pipe= still a nice luxury cruiser, i'm very happy that when the car is in normal driving mode, you hardly can tell any changes in sound from inside the cabin.

There is a cool little growl coming from the exhaust now, that wasnt there before.

Today is as hot and humid as it gets so A/C on full blast, didn't drive much with windows down as it's too hot. But from what i can tell, there is a slight increase in growl. I'll know more as weather cools down and i drive with no noise coming from my a/c vents or music.

Driving the car in sport mode with paddles right away, 1st gear want to bang on reg limiter lol, it just rips through the gear. The car revs easier and freer while in neutral.

That damn power dip at 4-4500 rpms is there in 3rd gear, drives me nuts. Passing power on the highway in the upper rpms is changed nicely.

like top of 2nd gear, car revs much quicker.

i doubt ecu has adapted, and with this crappy muggy weather i doubt i'm feeling everything, it's a work of art. No smells from having no cat. I'm very happy right now

this company put great attention to detail, they made the flanges in house, and they also put the groove in it to use oem gaskets. top quality job, the flex pipe is a nice size too.

Marty, thanks. I love this car

Forgive my ignorance here, but what makes this J-Pipe better than the original? From the pics, it looks like thinner pipe, with a longer "J". How's that going to help?

The craftsmanship looks killer, though.

to answer a few pics.

big whop look at the flow of the two pipes on the stock one, the angle is a T so it's not really good for flow.

my jpipe now has a smooth airflow, they merge better, and no secondary cat also helps.

I will try and get sound clips, but honestly it does not sound much different from stock. If anyone in MTL wants to meet i can, or i'll stop by the shop and get a soundclip. I don't have a good camera.

and i'm leaving the country for a few weeks soon

i had a chance to open her up lately, the dip in the powerband is reduced noticeably but still there, i think an intake would fix that, if not a proper tune.

but holy crap does the car pull harder than before, i really need to compare to a stock car, but it revs way easier and i hit the rev limit in 3rd as i wasn't used to it climbing speed that quick.

No smells or anything funky from the test pipe either.

The only sensors reside in the Pre-Cats. There is not a single sensor in any of the parts he changed.

Small question: do you get a kind of growl and some drone around 1500-2250 RPM?

I installed XLR8 J-pipe last friday and get this drone so I want to know if you have a similar noise.

Since I'm in your neighbourhood, if you don't experiment this problem, I might be interested to meet you and get the coordinates of your custom shop...

Thanks!

???

If you are doing a custom j-pipe with a test pipe...why not incorporate both in 1 solid unit...why brake it down to 2 pieces?

I mean 3 flanges/gaskets compared to 5 flenges and gaskets!

Just curious!!!

CRAZY KEN

Nice and clean work...just wish they can make a j-pipe that incorporates the test pipe in one piece...

I actually was trying to say this same thing a few days ago, but it didn't post when I hit submit. That would be an extremely smart idea to do.

Not to be negative or sabotage your potential sale but I don't see how those pipes could be better, if even equal the to rv6 long jpipe (2 in 1). The only incentive would be of you were to sell them dirt cheap?
