USB Flash: Unplayable Tracks

USB Flash: Unplayable Tracks
Albums have been transferred from iTunes to USB Flash Drive.
Everything looks normal when the recorded tracks are checked on my mac. All of the tracks appear as in iTunes.
However, when played in my 2010TL, about 5 seconds of "unplayable" material is interposed between each and every track. In other words, there is a long period of silence between tracks.
Am I doing something wrong?
Solution?

This happens in my car too. Especially if I shuffle the songs. It is a little better if I hook up my ipod rather than a flash drive. I think it is just slow at reading the external drive. It’s even a bit slow on the demo DVD Acura gives you when you buy the car. The other thing that I learned is protected tracks/albums in itunes cannot be played on a flash drive. Most new music is not protected, but some of my older stuff is. Kind of a pain in the a$$.

Perhaps it's a formatting issue relevant to iTunes?

The manual says the maximum supported is 320 kbps and supports variable bitrate. I don't see any connection between the bitrate and the "unsupported file" issue, it seems to happen randomly.

Have you tried a different flash drive? I have several and some just don't respond or play erratically. Using iTunes and the bit rate shouldn't be a factor at all if you follow the manual guide, most of us get it to work just fine. Try a AIFF or WAV file at 44.1Khz/16-bit instead of an MP3 just for the sake of it on that drive and see if it plays?

Just as another data point, I've tried three different mediums (a flash-based media player, a USB flash-based thumb drive, portable hard drive) and the car has had problems with tracks on each, but the curious thing is, they are usually different tracks. Note that the tracks themselves are identical across all three mediums (same source files), so I have to guess it's something wonky with the medium like minor corruption or filesystem or something.

Are you using itunes to place the music on the USB? If so look into Gapless Option since you mention 5-10sec issues I thought I read somewhere that the Gapless option in itunes can cause problems with devices. Im not around itunes to lookup the exact name but its Gapless something, you might wanna look into as well.
