1) When I select the Map Menu, items like Voice and Guidance Menu are dimmed out and unselectable. This happens whether the engine is running or not. Do I need to be going to a destination to access either of them? 2) How do I control the volume of the voice commands? 3) Finally, is there an option to switch driving instructions based on shortest distance or shortest time like the aftermarket GPS units? I am running the 2018? update.

1) Never noticed it.

3) If the Navigation is telling me to go somewhere and I know of alternate route, I just drive the alternate route and let it auto-recalculate the new path. I think you may need to pull out the manual to see if that is an option (shortest time vs shortest distance). I think by default, it will choose shortest distance. There is another option to watch out for is 'Tolls". I had it turned off in Canada because I don't want to use our toll system but when I went to the USA, you want Tolls.

TIP: Put in Zip/Postal code to find 'streets' faster. i.e. Blvd, Ave, Circle etc.
