Samsung Galaxy S4

I'm considering picking up a S4 and am wondering how it interacts with my nav. I have a 2012 TL w/ tech and my current iPhone shows my music playlist, etc. Does the S4 do this as well?

Does anybody here have an S4 and are there any issues with it compatibility wise?

Thanks!

I have the S4 with 2010 though so I don't get song/displays, but the controls all work fine, but you should get it no problem if you receive it with the iPhone.

I'm so glad I left iPhone for my S4 (on a different note) such a night and day experience). I use the drive mode so when I get in car and it syncs bluetooth, Galaxy greets me, reads all my texts, tells me missed calls etc and I can send texts without having to stare at the phone while driving. Voice recognition is awesome.

And I now use Google Maps/Navigation (which gives the turn by turn) thru the cars bluetooth as well just like the factory nav but more updated and accurate (and doesnt cost me money every new update) or any money for the app

Awesome thanks!

Yea I'm pretty excited about the switch. Been an iPhone user since the 3GS and am ready for a change. ios7 and so far what I've seen from the 5S haven't impressed me too much. I want a larger screen! haha

Yea I had the 3G and 4, wife had the 3GS and 4S... Back then they were ok I always had to Jailbreak to at least tolerate, but to me the Droids just werent there yet, now I think they've finally taken over that lead and are only going to improve, while Apple falls on face (its an Ok phone don't get me wrong and they did force others to get with the program and thats great competition).

Ultimately I think I loathed the whole iTunes and locked down aspect Apple always adheres to works for others just not me. Droid OS and hardware provide me with more and what I need. In the end thats what matters what you as the user need/want and happy with, who cares what anyone else says right?

i have the S4 rooted and working just fine via bluetooth. picks up when someone calls, but i wish it would notify when an email or text message received. voice commands work good to. can dial my saved contacts with the push of a button and one voice command.

bluetooth audio works ok. i get best quality from my ELS radio with songs via USB.

let me know if you want me to test anything else with the S4

Turn driving mode on manually or setup the location for bluetooth for car and it will auto turn on drive mode when you get in car. It will read and write text via voice, it will notify emails as well. One thing I have noticed is it sometimes reads previous texts I have already read. So say I get into car it will be all you have 5 new texts (even though they are older ones I read on the phone.)

Thanks for the response! So it works just fine when plugged in via USB? You get access to scroll through songs using the nav screen, etc?

Or wait a couple seasons...

Rumor has it the S5 (Spring 2014) will have a full metal exterior and back back seat driver function that smacks you in the head and says, "Slow down, you're scaring me!"

I connected via bluetooth.

i was skipping though the songs via the music player on my phone. All the screen says was the bluetooth name (Samsung SGH...). I did not try via USB. i can try that tonight.

That would be great if you could. I've searched online but can't seem to find an answer.

Thanks

I believe it doesnt work because S4 uses MTP type connectivity and the USB ports only accept iphone/ipod or USB disks (I forget the tech term for how it loads in the system for usb disks) but the S4 is not recognized by the Acura USB for that reason.

Damn this does suck. When streaming over bluetooth, are you still able to scroll through songs, etc on the nav screen? That's what I'd miss the most if you can't. I know on my iPhone now I can't if I'm using bluetooth so that's why I plug it in every time.

No Bluetooth 2009-2011 models will only stream the sound, and allow for volume/track adjustments nothing on the display. 2012-2013 models will display whats playing but I don't think it scrolls through the list as it would if you had a usb drive/ipod type device connected.

Sadly its not really the phones fault (imo) its the implementation/limitations of the crummy factory systems guess that's why there is an aftermarket for this stuff (although it seems like a nightmare with these newer vehicles since the din/double din days seem to be dying)...

Hell if they just incorporated MirrorLink/Apples version of it you don't even have to waste money on R&D of weaker factory locked down systems, just allow the people to use their phone for Navigation (which is 100x better and freely updated - ie Google), streaming music/movies...

All that really needs to be done is the post processing of the source (displaying the video on a screen) and amplifying the audio some to send to speakers....

Oh well maybe in a perfect world, certainly not happening anytime soon.

I've had my S4 for a week now and absolutely love it. The bluetooth works very well for both audio and voice calling. It might just be in my head but it sounds like there is an improvement in call quality over BT compared to my iPhone 5 (which is now my wife's )

On my iPhone, when an incoming call would come in and I use the steering wheel button to answer, half the time there was a 5-7 second delay before I could actually hear the other person. It didn't happen every time which was strange but when it did I basically had to keep going "Hello? Hello?" until I heard them. That problem has not happened once w/ the S4 which is awesome. It connects right away.

Regarding the BT streaming for music, it shows the current song playing and artist on the nav screen which is very nice. The only thing it doesn't do is give me the ability to scroll through my playlist on the nav screen using the knob. I believe this is iOS device exclusive. Using the steering wheel to fast forward to the next song also works.

Overall I'm very happy with how everything works and am learning new things about Android every day!

I have a 2009 TL Tech and S4 phone. Was using Google Navi last night and turn by turn audio didn't get sent via bluetooth. I was checking the settings on the phone and can't find anything.

Any suggestions on how to make this work?

Any Android device running 4.3.x will have updated Bluetooth stacks which enable the phone do display all ID3 tagging information onto the screen. I have an S4 running 4.3 (Paranoid Android) and there's no issues w/ connecting or streaming music.

I noticed this happened once to me and my S4 and 2010 Tech, it was on the phone inside the Navi App. When you have the app running and providing directions, hit your menu button, and ensure the voice option is on (I forget the exact name as my phone is in my car while Im at work). But it will be listed in there.

Give it a go.

Any picture of what it looks like? You can blur the phone numbers?

I had a 2008 MDX before I found, I had to turn off some of the google features to get it to work correctly.

This might have to do w/ your numbers being stored as "(area-code) ###-####" and not "+1 (area-code) ###-####" on your phone. When someone calls it almost always sends the incoming call as the latter number. Your phone is smart enough to pickup that both numbers are the same, but not the TL. I added +1 to all my numbers (using google's export/import function and syncing contacts again) and its working great so far.
