Previous Destinations after Nav Update
Previous Destinations after Nav Update
I just ordered the 2012 map update for my '09 TL and was wondering if the "Previous Destinations" info is erased after an update. This is the first update I've done since owning the vehicle, but I'm sure some of you out there have done 1 or 2 updates.... Thanks in advance for the help!
So did it keep your data when you updated?
I'm getting ready to order the dvd for my 09 TL and this will be the first update it is getting. I'm assuming it will retain data, but I'll report back either way.

Huskr, each time I replaced my disc, the previous destinations stayed in the system! Obviously, since the 4G's don't have discs, it may be different, but I hope that helps a little.

At any rate, I am ordering this for my car this week, I didn't do last years update. I have a friend who did the update to her car last year and she said it kept all her previous destinations and other information.

Definitely keeps the previous destinations.
I do mine every year because I'm in an area of rapid rural/agricultural/suburban development. I'm always running across a road somewhere in Northern Virginia or Western Maryland that just wasn't there the last time I was through. :-)
The annoying thing is how long it takes to do. You either have to idle your car for an hour and a half to two hours, or get used to having to start, stop and re-start the CD over many, many hours.
I just idle the car in the driveway until it is done, but it's kind of annoying wasting that energy.
Whoever figures out how to do it another way is going to make big money from Honda and Acura.
If you do not travel very much, and you live, work and travel in a part of the world that is fairly static in the way of development, maybe you can do it every other year or so.
If you are in a part of the world that is still developing, or if you travel frequently in areas with which you are unfamiliar, it is probably more important to keep up with the map updates.

Yeah well I live in SoCal, Long Beach to be exact!
I drive the same route to work everyday, and its great for meeting at certain places of interests for a night out, etc. But I can't justify the $150 every year, maybe next year or when I can see it being worth the money.
Right now my XM w/traffic is about ready to run out, I'm debating if should I get the XM, or with the traffic. The traffic at least gives me a general idea when I'll get into work, or home each day. Something that I put on daily. It's just the extra $70 for the year, is it worth it.

I have a 2007 Type S that I have been running around Long Beach / OC with the original disk. The roads probably haven't changed much but some of the stores and other destinations may have. I just swapped cars and now my wife will be driving the TL so I will probably get her a new map set. Every 4 yrs is about how long I used to keep the old Thomas Guide maps but they used to physically wear out.
