New owner! "missing" USB connection

Hi all,

Just got a new baby, black on black Tech/Nav 3.5. (Migrated from a 2006 BMW 325i...do I get some points for that? )
'
Now, I thought with Acura you basically "got what you got" in a given package, but my model is missing the much touted iPod/USB connector.

I'm told it would be in the center console, but what I have is just an AUX, a 12V power, and something that looks like it might be a blank plate for (maybe?) the USB. I got this from a Subaru dealer (who was clueless), but called to a couple of Acura dealerships here in Austin and they also seemed confused. The closest I got was one of the service departments saying they sold the adapter for $349. Not cheap, but not terrible. I'd just like to know what I'm looking for and how to explain it going in.

BTW USB, etc. shows up on the controls, so I know it's ready, just missing the proper plug/adapter.

Thanks in advance!
Richard

For the 2009-2010 TL Tech the USB adapter should be at the bottom of the center console, look for a black cable with a USB female connector at the end.

I did in fact look around quite a bit I think i'd notice if there was a cable or port there. (Or maybe I shouldn't be allowed to have the car! )

Here's what it looks like, sorry for the crappy pic.

yep, yours is missing....you can see where its supposed to be, the spot for it to rest when not in use, and the hole where the cable is supposed to be is there...looks like someone ripped it out...

Well, I popped that little plate off (thanks for the confirmation pic!) and I can see what looks like a module plug in there. It's pretty shallow so the good news is I can't imagine much of anything that could fit in there and cost THAT much.

(CrappyPic below)

So maybe it's just a cable missing. So the cable terminates in USB, then you go from there using standard ipod to your iWHATEVER, or just plug in a USB stick etc? (The important part being is it just a USB that eventually the cable turns into?)

Surely Acura can't charge too much for this Do we have a super parts guru on the board that can help me find the part #'s/cost for this assembly and/or cable?

Thanks all!!

(I also have rattling speakers, or blown, but I found a whole long thread about that and I've already scheduled service for them to replace them. Which they will, by all accounts. I'll print the forum thread and bring it with me just in case!

unfortunately 4g parts arent available on the sites I check out. I would go to the Acura dealer and see what they charge, and its possible that it could be a retarded high price. I almost paid 22 bucks for bumper plugs when the service guy gave me his discount and I paid 9. If you let them know your situation they may hook you up.

I just found the parts through the eStore (go Acura for having such complete breakdowns. Boo Acura for not giving you ACTUAL part #'s.)

It's either:
05 sub cord assy., usb
$40.03
006 cord assy., usb-a
$28.00
in the Rear Console.

I think it's the cable missing, so $28 (hello!). (The other appears to be what runs underneath and terminates in the socket I have.)

Looks like a chubby end that mates inside the panel, then runs out to USB. Still not terrible, $28 instead of $100s, but who makes off with that kind of thing! Can it really be useful elsewhere?

Continued thanks!

Our's is repo, actually found some weed in it. So I guess it post-smoked.
Can't you find something at Office Depot for less? edit:(disregard, that is the reason there's a big parts counter at the dealer.)

I can't tell what kind of port it is. It might be a bare USB port but haven't examined it too closely. Maybe I'll go take a peek.

It sure looks exactly like a USB port, with the exception of APPARENTLY being keyed to not fit a regular cable. COUGH Acura COUGH!

Spose I could mod one of my cheapo cables and see what happens. Might ground out if I put deep divets in the USB cable. So, $28 cable it may well be, unless you guys/gals find an appropriate cable

Well, for posterity, here's the part #, as I suspected: 39114-TK4-A01. The eParts/eStore had it for $28 plus $20 shipping (!!), I got the guy at the desk to give it to me for $28. Yes, for a 6inch proprietary USB cord.

Everything seems to work great now, except occasionally I have to un/replug my iPhone 4 or else I don't get any sound. Seems to be a timing thing when starting the car.

Next quest: how to get around paying $185 RETAIL for a nav update DVD
