Anyone have any tips on using voice navigation to minimize the no results? I can't believe how many places it cannot find. I try to use "Costco," e.g., and drill down from there, and it can't find the Costco closest to my house. It finds others that are miles from here, but not the one 7 miles away. What is up with that? I don't understand the logic of the system; half the time it doesn't find places that have been around for years. Even entering a phone # doesn't always help, again, even for places or businesses that are longstanding. It's maddening.
Oops - I didn't mean to say "voice navigation," just "navigation." The voice is another feature that is better in the ads than in reality. I like the news from Ford today about their brand new voice control system. Looks like it will blow Acura's out of the water. Acura's is primitive and awkward, mostly a distraction while trying to drive.
It is maddening, and another thing that is overlooked when people (Winslo?) state that the TL is luxury-equivalent to everything else. The TL Tech has Nav, but it's not friendly or usable for finding businesses... though the time-estimates seem pretty accurate (with XM, which I find very useful) and once you have an address in there, it's fine.
It also drives me nuts that it won't download the addresses from the phone when it syncs the address book. The phone book is unrelated to the address book. Huh?
One other weird thing about looking up Costco... I live near the home of Costco... in fact maybe one mile from the first one. There are many within 20 miles. Listed under four different categories. Some have gas stations, so they're listed that way. Some have pharmacies. Some are listed as Department stores. And so on. And it doesn't always know which ones have gas stations, so it can take several guesses. There must be a way to get all lumped together, but I haven't found it yet.
But if you think that's bad, try finding an artist or song low in the alphabet (past Q) on a fully loaded iPod in the TL. You will then realize that the Nav system may be terrible compared to those from Lincoln and newer Audi/BMW units, but it's so much better than what Acura could have inflicted upon us.
As with so many other features, "Nav" was a checkbox rather than a sliding scale for Acura. Feh.
