Nav and Nav Traffic SUCK!
There are two major highways in Brooklyn, the BQE (Brooklyn/Queens Expwy) and the Belt Pkwy. My Nav traffic does not give me any info for the Belt Pkwy, almost as if it doesn't consider it a highway. Is it because it's a parkway and not an expressway? Anybody run into this problem?
While I'm here, it's worth mentioning that I hate the navigation system, in that at least 50% of the time it won't show me an address. I'll start with street name, but when it gets to putting the street number in, only 7 and 5 will be lit up for instance, when in fact the address is 1221 or something. And these are not rural backroads we're talking about, nor are they addresses newly created since the navigation system was created. These are major urban streets that have been on the map for probably 100 years. This is not even mentioning the ass backwards way the Nav leads me EVERYWHERE. Last night in Manhattan, it was telling me to take the West Side Highway, through massive construction (which was NOT on the map) and even worse traffic, and is without a doubt the longer route (distance wise and time wise) than the FDR Drive. Also, where the hell was my traffic rerouting? It was certainly on, and not once did it do what it was supposed to do.
Anybody else have these problems with it? Is this system basically useless unless you're completely and utterly lost? I mean, what good is a guidance system if it's just going to lead you down the longest, most traffic-ridden roads and not offer an alternative like it's supposed to?

you might try alternate routing - change tollroads on / off, same for highways, direct -cant remember the other choices I know its not fool proof. At least in my area it's a good value. Seems to have less value in (imo) denser big city downtown areas. Out on the open road it does fine. any problems often seem to be as you get extremely close to your destination - example w/ my 3G took a 1200 mile trip to Disney World - Did great until deciding the exact exit at destination. this is an example of the few failures - most of the time it works just fine. Just don't do the like on the Office where they drive into water as the nav said to turn.

As for rerouting, you're right in that that button might fix the problem, but that's only good for when I know there are multiple routes and that one is probably better than the other. If I'm going in blind, I'll have no idea which way is best, and I thought I could rely on my nav to lead the way with the most efficient, least trafficky route without me having to second and third guess it. I really don't think I can though =(

Hydro, I have your solution. MOVE OUT OF NY! JK. I spend a week in NY about ten years ago, it's a mad house! (C.Heston) The NAV system couldn't possibly work as fast as New Yorkers do! There's no issues here in LA with NAV GPS, actually it's spot on. As far as accuracy and best routes, nothing beats good old fashion sense of direction and knowing the route. Mapquest may give directions, but it's usually a basic route, and you might figure out of quicker one. The NAV in the TL is what it is.

When you enter your location...select route options and it should give you a few different routes... Or like today I was stuck in some nasty traffic and most certainly going to hit some more...I hit the "detour" button and it made a pretty clever route that worked very well to get me crosstown and out of manhattan to the airport
I found the system to work pretty well. the +1 over garmin is that it can do dead reckoning in the tunnels and valleys of manhattan.. but there is a learning curve and I am still in the steep part of it

LOL that was pretty funny. That's another thing notably absent, along with lack of directional acumen...lack of common sense.

I have a 2006 RL and just received my 2009 TL SH-AWD with Tech on Friday night (02/13/2009) and I have used the navigation all weekend and haven't had any issues. It was accurate (as always). I even used it on the Belt Parkway on Saturday when I went to 212motoring in Sheepshead Bay. I guess it is all about personal preference. I have seen the navigation systems in other cars (my wife has a 2009 Mercedes truck) and Acura's system is far more accurate and intuitive.

I use the navigation system (3g) to get to places I normally would not know how to get too. I don't do too well trying to read mapquest instructions when I'm driving, so I appreciate being able to just look at the screen and listen to the audible directions.
I'm sure there are better, faster ways to get where I'm going; but I really don't care as long as I get there.....and I always do get there...eventually

Hydr0 I just test drove the SH-AWD yesterday around LIC and Woodside. Part of the test drive was on the BQE and the nav system read out exactly where we were the whole time on all roads and highways. Is it possible there's something that the dealer needas to check in your nav system to adjust it? Just wondering because the one I drove yesterday was dead on. Good luck.
