Missing Traffic Info

O.K. I have a really weird one here.

The wife primarily drives the TL on the freeway (HWY 26 W.B.) to work. I drive the RDX on the same route earlier in the day. Several months ago she pointed out the lack of West Bound traffic information for her commute. I thought nothing of it and assumed it was an issue with the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) sensors, due to road construction. However, I noticed that I still received traffic info in the RDX for 26W.B. without issue. Then one day I returned home dropped off the RDX and hopped in the TL with her and noticed that the traffic info I had just seen on my NAV was NOT on hers (no HWY 26 W.B. info). What makes it even more puzzling is that on a random day like Sunday at 5pm it will show up and work correctly, but only that one time. All other roadways work fine and 26E.B. traffic shows up correctly. This is very frustrating as we use that route to get to work and that info is the primary reason we shell out the $$$ for Traffic & Weather!

I forgot to ask about this at the last dealer service.
Anyone else have this issue?

I had a chance to pull both cars out of the garage and do a side by side comparison today. Here are the pics.

TL NAV^^^

(For some reason the RDX pic is not working{or use the link}. However, hopefully you get the idea. The RDX shows green on BOTH side of the freeway.)

Seems like I read something like that here on AZ but I couldn't find anything specific to this issue.

Im not quite sure how to define the vehicle location through navi, but I would bet that its in the owners manual/encyclopedia. It seems as if the location may be screwed up causing it not to show the traffic info. Although, Ive been able to scan in any direction onto any freeway and see traffic info..... very strange.

Where does XM get their traffic data?

Its not very accurate IMO. I am not planning on renewing my subscription after my 90 day trial.

MRTL,
Can you pan up to Portland and see traffic on that portion of HWY 26? The TL came from Stockton (Only SH-AWD BRP/Taupe HPT we could find on West Coast at the time), who knows wtf it was set to. However, EVERY other road works except the one we really need. Very #u(<ing frustrating.

I'm not sure how XM gathers the data. There is a 10-15 (even 30) min delay. It's helpfull 50% of the time. But if you don't get it at all, it's a rip-off.

Lol > That's what I was driving, (sedan) and we traded it in for the TL. That was a great car!... But there's always something better, so when we got a TL loaner, because the roof rack on the RDX leaked, Carrie fell in love with it (TL). When the accord needed brake work I convinced her to trade it in on the new TL. Now I never get to drive the new hot car and I'm stuck in the RDX. (So much for my plan)

I couldnt see nay traffic info when I looked it up on the map. I also used 154th and Jenkins as my destination and still didnt see any traffic info. I also didnt see it for my local freeways which is really odd.

Sorry, I wish I could provide a solution.

Just realized that I had mixed up East Bound & West Bound. In any case, I only get one side of just that Highway and everything else works fine.

Still waiting to hear back from dealer.

Dealer called and told me to call XM. Called XM, refreshed radio. Still not working. Called XM back and next guy (very cool Joe) told me it might be an issue with the software in the unit and I should call Acura Navi Client Services. Called ANCS and they told me they had never heard of this issue and I should take the TL to dealer.
I've made an appointment for 8:30am on 8/30.
However, I noted in my 2009 TL Maintenance Journal, on the first page, a date of 1/23/08. Are you serious??? We bought the car pre-owned with (1,600 mi) and word from dealer that it was repo. Do we own some sort of early production model (vin #A001012), or is this a casual mistake from a rooky lot boy???

I don't mind a fresh model year, but I draw the line at let's make 25 and see if they work.

edit: (Did I really #*(<-up on this one?? The price was so good I couldn't resist.)

Whew, ...Just pulled car fax and date is 1/23/09. Vehicle is listed as a Manufacturer Vehicle from Torrance, CA. Not a repo. The only issue was "Console armrest replaced."

I have exactly the same problem with my ’09 TL Navi. One specific interstate will not display the traffic at all. Refreshing the signal was no help… ACS was no help and told me that they had never heard of this issue before.. Going into the dealer to have the issue checked.

Thank you for the reply. I thought I was alone because it was such a weird issue. I will post solution...if there is one.

Well, my dealer replaced the XM receiver and that did not work. The issue is still there. The entire stretch of 1-79 does not display traffic at all on my TL. The same stretch displayed traffic perfectly on both sides of the road on 1-79 in the loaner I had. Not sure how to get this resolved...

I figured that the dealer might do that here as well. Were there any other issues with replacing the receiver? The XM rep I spoke with told me it was a unit manufactures capability issue (The RDX unit is different sub contractor then TL unit). Even though I believe he had good logic, this does not explain why the roadway randomly shows up. I’m going to tell dealer about your experience on Monday. Thanks again, I really appreciate the post!

Edit; Did they reload map data?

Only issue with replacing the XM receiver was that I lost all my preset radio stations. All other data and settings remained intact. The map data was not reloaded..

Took car to the dealer today and told tech my story. He said he had not heard of the issue in the TL but tech said they had issues with TSX as well. We agreed not to waste each other’s time after he told me that he would probably not be able to resolve the issue. He said that he would most likely call tech hotline and get "we are working on a patch and we’ll call you back."
Tech stated that there were several other issues with XM NAV and that Acura may switch to On Star system in the future.
I think I’ll just call XM to complain and see if I can get some freebies. Anyone want a XM hat?

Ironically, traffic speeds on HWY 26 were working when I took it in but quit soon after.

Had similar problem with '08 RDX.
Dealer found other problems in radio. when replaced and XM refreshed a COUPLE of times. All was good.
Newer system in '11 RDX seems much more reliable.
