Issues with plugging in iPod with car on

Hey,

So my buddies and I have different music on our iTouches. We often switch the devices. However sometimes there's issues when we unplug one and plug in another. I'd say the rate is about 50/50. Half the time when plugging in a new iTouch, the nav won't correctly detect the device. It will start playing the last song played, and continue down the list. However the display won't update with the new song title/number. When I hit the Audio button, it just displays a blank page with the track/band information blank. It won't allow me to switch the songs either. Usually to fix this I have to restart the car. Sometimes reconnecting a few times works.

Is this a common issue? It's not really troublesome, just a slight inconvenience.

I've had this happen when I unhook my iTouch and plug in my iPhone - usually unhooking and plugging back in fixes it, otherwise you can't control the iPhone through the steering wheel. Annoying, yes.

(and yes I know you can Bluetooth connect the iPhone to the car, but it sucks the battery of my iPhone dry - and sometimes I like to charge my phone when I'm in my car for an extended period of time)
