Front door speaker replacement - Image Dynamics
Front door speaker replacement - Image Dynamics
I replaced the front door speakers with a pair of Image Dynamics mid-bass. CX62.
This was my second go at replacement speakers. Originally went with Infinity Reference and was very disappointed. Not sure if it was due to them being 2 way or if they didn't have enough low/mid.
Anyhow, these were a bit of a trick to fit. I had to customize using the stock speaker and cutting all of the "guts" out so that only the spacer part of the bracket remained. Still had to cut away a little more of the bracket to get the driver to fit flush. Then had to mount the bracket to the door - then the driver to the bracket using self tapping sheet metal screws. Seems to be very flush with the door panel so I'm not too concerned with the heavy weight of the speaker pulling the screws loose.
Used Metra adaptors to keep the stock harness in tact.
The sound is good at low volume and excellent at high volume (25+). Overall still seems a little bright. I'm wondering if the RMS values on these and my replacement sub (also an ID product) is having an effect on that.
I am planning on replacing the rear deck next with another set of these, but may opt to go with new tweeters or 3.5s if the RMS will make a difference.

I have a pick of the adaptor ring and will upload as soon as I figure out how.

I wouldn't have an issue replacing amp if I could keep existing wiring, etc. However, I have to say the system is greatly improved with these speakers and sub. I am +2 on bass settings and -2 on treble. The main thing is how clean it is. I can get to and exceed 35 on volume without feeling like I am stressing the system.
