Free air sub.....

Has anyone tried replacing the factory 8in sub with an aftermarket free air one? Not looking to have to build a box or run an amplifier if i can avoid it. Just may add a little stronger sub that will run off the power provided my OEM.

I was running a MB Quart shallow 8" off fatory amp... not worth it...any aftermarket 8 needs more power and the back will rattle too much at high volume.

I removed the rear 8" and put in a 12" in the trunk.

If you are set on a IB style sub...go with at least a 10" in the trunk. Fi Audio makes really nice IB subs.

the 3G crowd is gungho on IB setups. seems to be the best setup for our cars.

^thats what an IB(infinite baffle) setup does.
it allows you to save trunk space by having a free air sub.
but you'll have to make the board sit flush against the seats, since the seats dont come down anyway....

I understand the concept as I was in the industry for about 20 years. I just wanted to keep it in the factory location. I will have to look into this further..

You can do IB from the stock location, just won't be plug and play due to the power requirements and the extra weight.

Hey man just a idea but I do have a 8" inch JL w3v3 for sale. Also have a homemade sealed box for it. Its tiny and wont take up much trunk space.

Actually I don't since I have not taken this car apart yet and don't know much about the system yet. It hasn't been a priority. I don't know what anything looks like behind the liner. I am still learning this car and haven't built a system in 8 years.
