I have same problem, but since I can just plug my ipod into the usb connector, I didn't bother to pursue it.

It's probably the file system or partition setup on the Flashdrive. Should be easy to fix.

First, the potential easy fix...

1) Plug in your Flash drive

2) Click your start button and go to My Computer, or Computer (in Vista)

3) You'll see all of the drives in your system. Right-Click on your Flash drive, and choose format from the menu.

4) When the format window opens, click on the restore device defaults button, select quick format, and for file system, make sure FAT32 is selected.

5) Click OK to proceed with the format. When done, copy some music files over and give it a shot. I have used a Patriot 16GB drive without issue.

If that doesn't work, I have a more compllicated set of instructions I could explain, that details how to re-partition the Flash drive that should do it.

Same problem.

Recently bought a 2012 TL w/ tech. USB works w/ iPod, but not a 64 gb Kingston flash drive. Checked format in properties: FAT32. Have not tried to reformat because Win 7 wants to use exFAT to reformat. Don't know if that will make things worse.

Any idea?

You're going to have problems formatting anything over 32gb with fat32 in windows; you literally exceed the extent capacity the OS puts on the file system at that point.

Read About This Utility Here and then click link below to download it

HP Flash Drive Format Utility

I THINK you can read 64gb ipod - but haven't tried anything beyond a 32 in it.

Just bought a 64 gb Kingston flash drive for my 2012 TL. Kept getting "unsupported" error message. Properties dialogue showed that formatting was FAT32. Finally came across this post and tried out the utility. Now at least music plays. Loading the rest of my music library now. Will see if the car recognizes all, but don't see why not.

Thanks for the suggestion. Was getting a little frustrated.

Anything over 32GB needs to be formatted with a third party tool called Fat32Format. After formatting the car should pick up the key fine. The tool can be found here:

FAT32 only supports 32GB by standard.
Anything >32GB might not work.

Try to partition the drive to 2 x 32GB.

Also, try to format the drive with this: http://www.itaustinweb.com/windows/H...l-SP27608.html

Touche!

Just FYI: iPod uses a different format, that's why all iPods >32GB work, but only if they use the interface based on USB and not on Firewire, which changed 2003 I think.

That's not entirely true. FAT32 supports a partition up to 8TB (more info), it's just the format tool in Windows limits it to 32GB because they're assuming FAT32 should only be used for thumb drive type media, and back when they set this stuff up, 32GB was way out there. Among the other tools listed by others, I find formatting in Linux to be quick and easy... except for that part where it's Linux, which scares most away.

I've used all the software tools listed in this page and got the same result. Does TL maybe have limitations on how much usb storage one can used? Does anyone here used a 64GB usb successfully. What brand did you used? This is really frustrating.

My personal experience is that anything > 16GB gets flaky, but I know others have gotten it to work for higher storage devices.

I pretty much gave up on the flash drives and just manage everything on my device through Bluetooth. The upside is that navigating through the filesystem is MUCH easier on my phone, the downside is I can't touch it while moving (or shouldn't) and you don't get any information on what's playing.

That's why I rote "might", and If the usb-controller in the TL uses the "Windows-Standard" we're stuck with the 32GB.

For the love of gawd, I posted the resolution to this months ago - read the damn thread. The 64GB ones work fine if properly formatted. It's FAT, not rocket science; there are no opinions, only facts.

Like I said, I've used all softwares suggested in this thread (even yours) and got the same result.

FYI, I have the Kingston and there's definitely something wrong with it. I've formatted it multiple ways, using multiple tools and even Linux. Still doesn't work. I have a 2010 and 2009 TL at home and it doesn't work in both. 3 other USB sticks work just fine in both cars.

I have a Kingston 8GB Flash drive. Checked and it was operating FAT32.
My music is in no folder.

When I plug it in the car recognizes the data and shows the song name but no volume comes through.
Everything else works fine with proper volume. Anyone have this happen to them and found a resolution?

Maybe check the bit level. i.e. 256 bitrate.

You may need to find songs with different rates to see what the problem could be.

I have been using an older iPod so I don't have an issue.

Anyone know if USB 2.0 vs 3.0 matters? Will they both work or do we need to go with a USB 2.0 stick since 3.0 came out in 2008, I would imagine even a 2009 model wouldn't support it because it was probably designed much earlier. Thanks in advance!

I'm sorry but I've found Kingston to suck lol SanDisk or Sony sticks work much better. Maybe try those out

Turns out 3.0 has backward and forward functionality to/from 2.0, so it shouldn't matter. I'm going to buy a few sticks in 128 and 64gb to find the best one.

OK so I've found the one that works right out of the box, no issues whatsoever. It's even formatted in FAT32. All you do is drag and drop your music onto it and it's ready to go! It is the SanDisk cruiser USB drive. You can find the info on it here and there's also a button which tells you which stores near you have it in stock. Hope this helps everyone else.

OK. Encountered another issue. I've been testing with several USB thumb drives with different scenarios. My findings on this are:

Yes it only works with FAT32, and only certain brands of USB sticks work as we've discussed above.

It doesn't matter how small or big your USB drive is, the system will cut you off and not read any songs if the drive is loaded with over 16gb. (it will just say "USB read" and the USB drive will just shut off)

So, if you're a music lover like me, you can't have all your 100+gigs of music on any one stick. This means it makes more sense to create a library of a few sticks, a-k, l-s and t-z (for example) to have all music on hand. And since USB sticks can be as small as a quarter, keeping three in the center console isn't so bad and the quality of the sound versus Bluetooth is MUCH better. So i reccommend getting the SanDisk cruiser in 8 or 16gb and going from there... Depending on how much music you own.

UPDATE: So after more checking and testing, I found a few more things out. Sorry for all the messages, I'm just trying to help people out in the future. It turns out more than 16gb will work, however it is very picky.

I used a 64gb SanDisk cruiser. Partition for each about 30gb. Then I combed every folder of music. Every file must be one of the accepted files above. You can't have any .NFO , .Gif. .JPEG. .M3u files or the entire drive won't work. Sometimes these are hidden files. You must activate to show hidden files which can be done on Mac or Windows. Then you need to remove all those files within every folder.

Now the fun part begins. To address the issue with the folders/names being random and the artist name not showing, within your folder structure, every album folder should be adjusted to a new system. The reason is so that in both your car and your computer, you can still keep organization:

Normal way:

> Artist
> Album
> Track

New way for display on Acura system:

> Artist
> Artist - Album
> Track

This should address all issues now and if anyone needs more help I'm here.

This is the way. Windows 10 will allow it via elevated command prompt but it ain't quick, takes about an hour for a 64gb stick.
I got mine formatted with their portable formatter in a few seconds, just leave the quick format checked. linked here: Ridgecrop Consultants Ltd
