First DVD-A Created...

I have Stop Making Sense a Talking Heads DVD. I watched it once and if you like the Talking Heads it is a great collections of music. So I used some of the TIPS posted in various threads and created a DVD-A disc for use in the car. Just tested it and it worked great!!!

For those of you interested...
I used DVD Audio Extractor to create OGG files of the 5.1 tracks which were supposed to be supported by "DVD Audio Solo". I could not figure out how to get DVD Audio Solo to import the OGG files so I converted to FLAC. DVD Audio Solo imported the FLAC files with no issue. Created the disc and it sounds great. Now I just need to find more source material.

I was amazed at how good the ELS system sounds. The fact that DVD-A is dead is really dissappointing.

Well done! I am a Talking Heads fan and have that DVD. I wil lgive it a go.

I realy enjoy the 5.1 surround in our ELS.. not sure if Acura will support DVD-A going forward.

^^ I think I read somewhere that the RLX is no longer supporting the DVD-Audio format so it seems that Acura has decided that it was no longer worth carrying the technology in their vehicles. That means the TLX wouldn't have it either, using that logic anyway.

OP....Thanks for the tip, I may try that too and see the outcome.

You're right-the RLX has a different sound system now (by Krell) and is not DVD Audio. It makes sense, since the format is dead.

Congrats on the DVD-A, Rich. And yes, it's VERY sad that there is no more DVD Audio. People don't know what they're missing.

Sadly, MP3 via headphones is good enough for most people

Have now ripped a few concert dvd's to DVD-A. Using Audio Extractor creating Flac files of the tracks and then DVD Audio Solo to burn the DVD. Overall the quality is very good and I am fairly pleased. What I find odd is that it seems each disc winds up with one track with garbled audio. I will have to go back and see if the Flac files are the issue. Maybe some background job on my PC is messing with the initial extraction.

You're right, Stew.

We live in a "convenience oriented" society. MP3's make it convenient to carry lots of music with you-at the loss of high quality audio.

When people hear 5.1 surround sound, they're amazed. You can't get that kind of amazement out of MP3's.

ive been using dvd-solo since i got my 2006 tl MT, and having since upgraded to a 2013 tl tech, ive been just as happy with it just no more 6 disc indash dvda at this time, but the ipod and bluetooth interfaces negate the need for all the discs. imho.

I am frankly disturbed by news of updated Acuras without DVD Audio support. Sure, technology moves forward, but does this mean there will be no surround sound options in the new Acuras? Will 5.1 music be supported via USB, DVD Video or else? Is my 2010 TL going to become a collector's item? Does this mean I spent a lot of time to fix a gazillion bugs in the DVD-A Author source code to burn DVDs that will never work in the new Acuras? I feel cheated.

Unfortunately, that's life.

It's survival of the fittest. Unsupported/inferior technology formats will become obsolete, such as Betamax, casette tape, floppy disk, Minidisk, and now DVD-A.

Yea, it's sad that there's no more DVD Audio system. But the format has been dead for a few years. And Acura can't afford to stay with a dead format....

mailman, I just checked out the link you posted. I'm not sure I quite understand the software 100% though. Does this allow me to create DVD-As from any source, like MP3s etc? If that is the case, I will be all over this. What type of blank disc do you need to use, DVD I'm guessing.

I love the sound system in my TL and would love to have more DVD-As to listen to. I didn't even know there was something like this out there. As some have already said, MP3s are all about convenience and not about sound quality. I would love to have more sound quality.

Sorry if I sound like a noob with this, I am!

I must have installed this 10 times to burn the 5 free each time before I went ahead and bought it. I am glad I finally purchased it.

I have converted many multichannel sacd's into dvd-a and even stereo sacd's to 5.1 dvd-a sound really good.

My question is when burning 24/88+ do you downsample to 24/48 so you can have all 6 channels the same or do you leave group1 at 24/88+ and then do group 2 at 16/48? I am doing group 2 - 6 ELR 16/48. I have done some 24/48 and they might sound more even across all speakers but they do not sound as good to me.

Unfortunately, the sound will only be as good as the source. So I dont recommend converting mp3s to dvd-a. Use at least a lossless format or try and visit https://www.hdtracks.com/.
Lots of stuff you can download and convert. There are some old threads on this.
