1) They will add sales tax. Doh!
2) For Database number (required to purchase) I entered the software number. (2.90 for my 2014 software version). It would not accept the database number of 10.C0

Inspire08 03-14-2015 11:31 AM

Debating if I should update my 2012, is this really worth it?

Reorge 03-14-2015 02:13 PM

No offense intended but please don't start debating the value of the update in my thread. It could go on, and on, and on, and on. It's like debating "abortion" or "politics"; some people believe one way and some believing another. This thread was intended to inform, anyone that was already interested in purchasing the update, that it is one sale.

I may have to try entering 2.90. I posted this back in September because I was having a problem entering the software version like you did:

"I currently have Database 10.C0 and software 2.90 and every time I try to enter the database version it tells me that it's wrong. (It's not)."

Do ou know how long it takes to receive the DVD?

TheMuffinMan 03-15-2015 05:58 PM

The Database version is supposed to be entered without periods.

so 10.B0 is 10B0 for me.

Just ordered mine, hopefully update everything soon!

Gracenote was just updated too.

BigDTL 03-16-2015 10:52 AM

Anyone know the difference between the US listed update DVD and the Canadian version? Wouldn't both updates include the detailed maps for all states and provinces of both country? This is for an 09 TL.

Like can't we all just get along? :wish:

I challenged them (the "nav people") on this a couple of years back. At that time, they admitted (eventually) that the discs were the same, and even said I could purchase and get the US price/discount, so long as I was willing to ship to a US address. I was able to challenge them because they claimed that the US disc only had the first 50 or 100 miles into Canada, and yet the cities they listed were well north of that line. Also, I showed them that the city coverages listed were the same between the US/Canada discs.

The following year, the website was changed to make it appear that the US and Canada discs were in fact different (in fact, I think Canada got 2 discs, while the US only got one). So it appeared there was a difference.

I see they've changed their website again, and the coverage listings are no longer available. This is perhaps to keep us from seeing that they are the same...I don't know. It is curious that although the US has had the 2015 disc available for some time now, the Canadian site still only has the 2014; one would think that if they were the same, they could be selling it to Canadians as well.

You can try calling the nav people, but I wouldn't expect them to be either knowledgeable or honest.

Interesting, thanks for the input! If I decide to take one for the team and get the US disc I'll report on it.

I ordered after hours Fri 3-13 and according to the FedEx shipping tracker received via email the delivery date is scheduled for Fri 3-20.

Just chatted with them, they said the sale will be on until Mid July. Hopefully the Red will be back in stock.

4GTLSH-AWD 03-17-2015 09:34 AM

Just ordered mine last night

ckiggins 03-17-2015 08:59 PM

I installed mine today. It says it takes about two hours but it ended up being two hours and 45 minutes. I will say it really drove me nuts to be burning all of that gas while it installed.

ICPGr8Milenko 03-18-2015 12:51 AM

Thanks for the heads up! Just looked at this a couple days ago and could swear it said $180. Will be ordering in the morning (after I get the deviceID and whatnot).

ckiggins 03-18-2015 01:35 PM

Quick question:

So I updated my '12 TL using the Purple disc yesterday.

We also have a '14 RDX which according to the website also uses the same disc. I tried to update it but it wouldn't take the activation code. I assume that the activation code is device specific so you can't install the update on more than one vehicle?

Your assumption is correct. Perhaps you can make a deal with the supplier to sell you an activation code only for less cost.

I'm on hold with "HERE" right now; they're telling me that the 2015 Red discs are not "out of stock" in the traditional sense (as in they sold too many of them), but rather they were pulled from stock about 3 months ago because of problems they were having with the Red discs. Something about problems with some of the information not downloading properly. In fact, he even suggested I don't get the 2014 update (which is the one available on the Canadian site), as there have been too many issues with the Red line. No target date on getting them back out for sale.

You don't have to install all at one time. I installed my last update over a two week period. I stopped and started the engine about 25 times. It just restarts where is left off and continues.

andrewcjduong 03-19-2015 01:03 AM

Damn. Ordering in Canada gets you to $179. Oh well.

That sucks that 09-11's don't have an update, but i guess that's better than having a bricked navi...

But don't forget...we also pay $32.50 for shipping. As opposed to $3.95 in the US.

Delivered today, one day early.

Although it was shipped FedEx it was delivered by USPS in my mailbox. I guess USPS delivers some parcels for FedEx. I think its a good idea.

I'm not even going to bother. I'd rather just get lost and not go home.

TheMuffinMan 03-21-2015 11:36 AM

Fucking took like 3 hours on my TL last night - what a terrible method of updating.

gramzee 04-02-2015 10:06 AM

Tried ordering online today the US disc for my CDN TL. Both the US order screen and CDN order screen would not accept my VIN. Called them up, said they were having a problem and could process the order over the phone. Asked them the difference between the two discs and she said it only covers the first 50 miles across the border. I told her that the discs costs me $110 more to purchase the cdn disc after shipping and taxes, is it really that different. She said yes, so I said ok then I won't give you any money for the update.

Would love to know definitively if anyone has installed the US disc into the CDN model.

gramzee 04-02-2015 10:21 AM

Funny side note is the descriptions of coverage for both discs from both sites.

US Site

With map coverage that includes the 50 United States and Canada, your Acura will be equipped for travel both near and far.

CDN Site

With map coverage that includes Canada and the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii), your Acura will be equipped for travel both near and far.

Right cause i'll be taking my car from Toronto to Hawaii or Alaska anytime soon....... and why would they put that on CDN disc before the US disc? Last time I looked Hawaii and Alaska were part of the US not Canada. Seems a US consumer would need that coverage before a Canadian consumer.

gramzee 04-02-2015 10:36 AM

Reorge..... would you be able to help your neighbours to the north out, by entering a few addresses up here and see what your map does?

I'm close to the border, and my current map has always pulled up US locations accidentally that are clearly more than the 50/100 miles that the HERE company seems to randomly use as an excuse.

This should tell me if the US disc is actually the same.

Address/City/Province

7065 Tranmere Drive, Mississauga, ONTARIO
25 Royal Crest Court, Markham, ONTARIO
397 Queen Street Fredericton, NEW BRUNSWICK
1 Sir Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton, ALBERTA
100 Jensen Avenue East, Parksville, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Is it interesting that the address you randomly chose in Edmonton is for the courthouse?

Anything you want to tell us?:thief:

gramzee 04-02-2015 01:13 PM

I just picked random addresses out of google. Grabbed the first address I found after searching edmonton.

I'm in Toronto and Bought My car in Seattle. Already drove between Toronto to Ottawa. Toronto to houston and back. Along to Flint, Detriot, and Buffalo. All on the 2011 map. So I highly think you will be fine if you can buy the USA one. Work fine in the GTA, OTTAWA, and Niagra.

CruzanTLSH-AWD 04-06-2015 11:25 PM

Oh I forgot Vancouver also I did rode out over there before I left Seattle. Work fine..

Teddybear 04-07-2015 02:35 PM

red disc still out of stock...

Mjakaz09TL 04-16-2015 04:47 PM

So as of checking yesterday red disc now in stock. I just now ordered it but kinda wondering if I should have, even tho my 09 has never been updated before.

sockpuppet 04-16-2015 05:38 PM

If I was closer to the US border, or had someone living on the other side that I could use as an addressee, I'd try the US disc and see how far north coverage extends. Version numbers are the same. It'd be worth a shot.

I used to use my brother's address to ship stuff that wouldn't come to Canada (spent too much time on Woot), but he left NY a few years back.

i take it that there's no firmware update associated with this
