2012 Navigation Update
2012 Navigation Update
Just to let everyone know, ordered my Red disc Update, received it today, Inserted disc every thing was working,I got to about 30%,got "error can't write CA to HDD" I ejected the disc and examined it with a Jeweler's loup. Had some very fine scratchs.
I contacted
I asked them to send me a new disc,
No we can't do it.
Warning, $99 dollars sounds ok, But I got zero, so far.
I will update if I get some help
I contacted
NAVTEQ CUSTOMER SERVICE.
I was told, contact your dealer.I asked them to send me a new disc,
No we can't do it.Warning, $99 dollars sounds ok, But I got zero, so far.
I will update if I get some help
Update
That would make sense except the disc is coded with your VIN # and will only work on one car in the world. I called acura customer relations and they intervened in my behalf, three days later Navteq called and I sent the disc back.
I am still waiting for the replacement, what I didn't know is if the upgrade is not complete, your Nav system is toast,I get 3 error messages every 30 sec,but they don't interrupt the wallpaper,at least I don't have to keep pushing "ok"
I will never upgrade again

Kysmet, I wouldn't say, "I'll never upgrade again". I've got to think that this is an isolated incident. If you keep your car a long time and don't update (maybe 6+ years), you'll be sadly outdated with your POI's.
It's actually pretty cool that Acura Customer Service stepped up!
Sorry to hear this happened, but try your best to be patient.

I am the KING of software updates, I update everything, phones, computers, pads anything electronic.
Yes, things do fail but that is the nature of the beast. You NEED updates and it will in the long run will make things better for you even though the frustration of bricking your Navi is not a good one right now.
Heck, I've bricked more phones and computers than most, just fixed my office computer due to a Java update... the "joys" of IT

Upgrade mapping
Upgrading Gracenote is just downloading files, put it on usb and upgrade using your cars' usb connection. Or burning files to a cd and using the disc drive
Navigation update is by buying a disc from NAVTEQ, when ordering the disc
you provide system ser# etc etc,and your VIN #. Making this a custom disc which will only work on your car.
The disc updated the entire US,Canada,Hawaii EXCEPT FOR CALIFORNIA.
What is frustrating is dealing with NAVTEQ,unless my Nav system hates
California. The disc has a corrupt file. Burn me another one and send it.
I am still waiting.no correspondence ,hard to contact by telephone.
Still trying.
How long does it take to burn a disc?

When the software is loaded, it likely reads the VIN, database device ID and version and waits for the proper password which was given to you when you bought the disc. I'm sure the red discs are all the same it's just that the password is derived from the VIN which the software reads.
This is similar to how the Garmin software worked where you needed to provide the device serial number when you purchased the update discs and they would give you the passcode / key. The software would then read the device serial and you would provide the passcode / key.
