Winter Upgrade Event @ Acura of Seattle

For you folks who live in the Seattle area and receive the "Winter Upgrade Event" flyer, buyer beware. Yes I received this flyer in the mail today. What they tell you is they are looking to acquire 2005 Acura models as a trade so you can upgrade to a new model. "We will give you up to 110% of Kelley Blue Book Value for your vehicle." I felt that if you receive this flyer, this is why I say buyer aware.
On 11/20 I received a similar flyer titled "Upgrade Event." This dealer was promoting that they were selected to conduct a special Vehicle Buyback which is not available to the General Public. Same wording, if you own a 2005 Acura they want to buy back your Acura and then they tell you they will pay you up to 110% of Kelley Blue Book value for your vehicle. The caveat for "up to" is minus mileage and recondition charges. I looked up my 05TL w/ Nav for 36K mi and my car is in excellent shape. KBB online valued my car at that time $18600 plus 110% is close to $20500. So after deciding to buy a TL SH-AWD Tech, here were the numbers the salesperson presented to me. $17k for my car and $43,134 (some accessories on the car) for the 09. Of course I did not go for that. So the salesman asked me what it would take for me to buy it. I said I did not like the $17k. He then went up the scale "what if we give you $18k?" said no, $19k, said no, how about $20k? I then went out to look at the car again. He suggested how about $20500? My wife said, how about $21k. He said, I know we will not be able to give you that. So he went with $20500 and told me that he was pretty sure he could convince his manager to give me that. I said ok present the deal. Now the manager returns w/o the salesman and said he could not give me $20.5k. His justification was showing me the Manheim auction results where cars like mine were sold at. So he shows me a similar TL sold for $15k. So he could only up my trade to $18k and acknowledged that my car was one of the nicest trades. I showed him the flyer for the 110% claim. He said "yes up to that amount." He did not show me any KBB figures only the auction results. We parted ways and it is in my opinion they use this flyer as a deceptive means to get you into their lot. If you are not an informed buyer, they will get you. I said to him that your flyer should reflect auction results and not KBB.
Sorry so long, but when I received another flyer after I asked them to take my name off their mailing and email list, I think its time for future buyers to be aware of their tactic. Don't fall for the Upgrade Event w/o the power of knowledge. I ended up getting my new TL at another dealer who gave me what I wanted.
