Who knows their stuff? (HID help)
Who knows their stuff? (HID help)
Hey all, kinda new here. I have a '13 TL, fully loaded and loving it.I have a few questions for anyone who can help, and yes, I did my best to search first.
I plan to replace my DRL/highs and fogs with 5000k HIDs.
1. Is it okay to put a 9005 HID bulb in the stock DRL/High-beam reflector housing? (I know this will cause glare, and the low voltage DRLs won't work. I don't care about glare for high beams, and I'll be pulling the DRL fuse.) My concern is will the HID bulbs be too hot for the housing/wiring?
2. I know that switching between high/low when running all HIDs will be bad for the HID highs and fogs. Does anyone know how much their lives will be realistically shortened? I don't want to burn them out in a week, but I also don't mind changing them every year. it'd be worth the trade off if the decrease in lifespan isn't too huge.
Any input would be a huge help. Thanks guys.

You shouldn't melt anything in the DRL housing bc the HID's won't be on for that long (unless you are driving with them on as high-beams).
You'll have a DRL malfuction light on your car, you can put in a relay kit with the error eliminator to get rid of this and have everything function properly.

HIDs take time to warm up. Oem warm up pretty quick and aftermarket take longer. So if your going to flash someone its pretty pointless. If you plan to run them for longer periods then it worth it. I hate when people put PnP kits in reflectors housing, it blinds on coming traffic. Highs will blind oncoming traffic weather it be HID or Halogen. I would run a harness also. And flickering HID will shorten the life span, but I am not sure by how much. Go to Hidplanet, there is a ton of info in there.
