What would you do-CPO/Tech etc.

Guys,

i am new here and in the market for a new car to replace a 14 year old workhorse!

I have not owned an Acura before but have always wanted one! I am from the Honda family though

I have come across 2 cars and they have put me in a dilemma.

1) Option 1 Private Party Sale - a 6 month old 2012 TL Base edition with 5K miles for $26.5K
2) Option 2 Dealer offered CPO - 6 month old loaner vehicle with 6K miles, 2012. This one has TECH option. Since its CPO the warranty is extended to 62K miles. Asking for $31K

I am wondering if the NAV is worth an extra 5K but it also comes with extended warranty. Please advice, I need some expert inputs

Id definitely go with the tech. The base comes with some nice standard options but for a used car for 26k i feel id be overpaying for no options...Even though it seems like that s agreat price... Heck If I were you Id look for SH AWD with that price for af ew thousands added to the 31k or a few more miles...Definitely dont go base

i would def get the tech ... seems like u keep cars for a long time, even if u dont get the shawd, get the tech cuz u can use the nav etc for years to come ... although i would like to say IMO, i feel like the shawd tech, is the best bang for your buck of all the tl trims ... so if u can swing it maybe u should go for that trim

If the car is going to be the new workhorse I would go with the private sale base as you will be putting a lot of miles and there is not much benefit with the extended warranty.

Tech would make it easier to sell later but since its going to have a lot of miles and will be kept for a long time I don't think it will matter. Save your 5k and you have a reliable workhorse for many years to come.

Is the reason people put tech to sell it easier or for the convinience and features? In reality you dont need any packages but also nobody needs a TL as a 1980 Civic can get us anywhere with the bare necessities.

I dont see how an extended warranty will hurt ESPECIALLY on a car that will be driven alot?

No disrespect just my two cents.

I got a 2010 TSX base and i regreted not spending the extra few k to get some more features

I would go with the CPO Tech. Maybe people will call me naive, but if you're getting the CPO through a good dealer, they're really giving it a work over to make sure that there are no serious problems with the car. Alignment, all fluids changed and new, suspension parts checked, etc. The CPO alone runs about $2K, then you're looking at another 3K for the TECH. Not a bad deal, IMO. Actually, a VERY good deal, even if only FWD. Mine was a CPO 2012 SHAWD Tech, corporate lease, in service 05/12, out of service 12/12, with 6500 on the clock, and it was around 35K.

Tell the dealer about the base TL and that you are thinking about purchasing that vehicle for 26.5K because you can't justify the price difference. Then tell him, you really do like the tech and you can certainly justify a 4K difference...trust me, they'll go for it!

Go for the Tech.... You wil love it. You can compare pricing to other similar cars at
Cargurus.com to the deal you are getting. Of course you should check car fax and all of that as well.
If you travel the nav will definitely come in handy. Not to mention the resale value.
Good luck on what ever you decide and welcome.

I mentioned this in another post.. you can buy an AcuraCare warranty from Hyannisport Honda that will take you up to 100k or 120k miles.

I bought when my 09 Tech reached 48k miles - gave me an extra 4 years up to 100k miles for $1,265 - I've already used it twice for 2 different door lock actuators going out - ~200 each.

I still get loaner cars while my car is in the shop b/c it's a benefit they offer separate from CPO.

the extra features of the tech pkg (upgraded sound system, hard drive, etc) and the complete look of the interior with the navi....you need to determine whether it is worth it to you and what you want to pay for it. if you can get the dealer down to 29-ish it's not a bad price. you also have to determine whether the CPO benefits are worth it to you for peace of mind.

considering the CPO with tech was a dealer loaner....i couldn't buy a loaner. i think rental car, albeit a nice one. i'm not sure how many hands it has exchanged, how it was driven, what fuel was put back into the tank, etc. this is just me though.

i'd go for the tech pkg in any car (as i have in the my TL and my MDX)...navi when i need it, the complete dash look, and the upgraded sound system are worth it to me.

With the nav, bluetooth, rear view camera, rear spoiler, ELS sound system- I'm probably forgetting something, the TECH is well worth it.

And the CPO option is some peace of mind!

it duz kinda suck that the cpo was a loaner, but with only 6000 miles it might be a good idea, if the car itself duznt look like it was beat on, there are some loaners i have driven that looks like they have been seriously abused. the cpo will help out, see if the dealer can throw in some freebies, maybe all weather mats, trunk tray etc.

Guys thanks for the valuable inputs. After some consideration (and these posts definitely helped), I have decided to save some money and go with the base model for about 4K cheaper. However I'm going to try one final, ridiculous offer and see if the dealer bites. If I can score the tech for 29.5 then Ill go for it else it wasn't meant for me

Cheers and thanks again!
