Lol, no - I should have been more clear on that. When my car died out, I actually called the body shop to tell them to go F themselves for screwing my car up. They offered to help me out without my asking.

Thank you for this!!!

Ours has had a warning come on a couple of times indicating a low battery, but we have never actually had a problem with the battery and I have just ignored the warning. It has not done it in several months now.

See this thread...

Wow, this is news to me. I was not aware that the TL had any type of glitch to do with the battery. The second battery has not died on me, only the first one did while I was driving.

Here is my new issue then, I suppose. If the battery low warning message comes up, when am I supposed to know to take heed or not? I can't have my car dying in the middle of freeway traffic.

PS also check the battery terminals for any corrosion.
Thank you, there was never any corrosion. That's the first thing I checked.

For anyone curious or interested, my car has been back to the dealership twice now with this same issue. I literally picked it up last night and it's going back in today. At this point I'm going to say that the timing of the minor body work was simply coincidental and that my car truly has an issue. The dealership has been zero help.

Haha, no doubt, right?

Nope... The car is absolutely 100% stock.

Accidents like that can sometimes crush wires that run inside the body of the vehicle and cause shorts that will drain the battery.

The damage will not be visible and it would be difficult to replicate the issue.

Thank you.

Is it possible, though, that the body shop would have missed this interior damage when they had my bumper off?

No kidding........ Really? Maybe it wasn't a coincidence then.

Outside of the battery issue, the car is cool. No problems at all. FWIW, here's a pic of the damage the night it happened. Really pisses me off just looking at these pics.

And the message I got today when I tried to leave at lunch. Well, one of them. The other showed up in the Trip screen:

hm.. i dont think that is something we are able to fix here on the forums.. if your under warranty, let the dealer handle it.

there is really nothing we can do at this point..

most common cause of battery drainage is the alternator.. but i dont think this is the case.

Yeah, you're right. I was just hoping to garner some alternative opinions. My service tech and I are cool, but not that cool, you know? I can't blindly follow everything that he and the dealership tell me.

I appreciate your input and help, though, truly.

I just wanted to update this thread. I continued to have the same issue, albeit the dealership did perform a software update at one point and stuck an MDX battery in my car which held off issues for quite some time until this Friday.

I ended up ditching the TL this weekend.... For this amount of money, an unreliable car is just not an option.

Your car is basically new; for 4 years/48,000 miles, who cares about the battery. Acura REPLACES it FREE!
In retrospect, you should've brought the car to an Acura dealer for repairs; this way, all the hassles, probably would never have developed, IMO.
Things WILL get better; hang in there.

Thanks - the story has a happy ending, though. My brand new A6 is sitting downstairs right now.

I appreciate your input... Well, considering I've had the car die on me while driving - in the middle of the road - and someone nearly hit me.... Yeah. I care about the battery. And frankly I don't want a brand new car that is in the shop more than it's in my driveway. The issue is that the vehicle, for whatever reason, was killing batteries left and right. It is unreliable and left me stranded more than once. For what it's worth, I live in AZ. It's about 113 outside right now. No battery = no AC. No AC + waiting upwards of two hours for a tow? No thanks.

Thanks... Definitely not sticking with Acura. I went with Audi this time around. First time owning a brand new German make.

omg! sick car!

but beware.. your probably going to have way more issues with an AUDI then the acura...

i have a friend that has a a4 and after 40k, the transmission went out.. costed 6 grand to fix.. the warranty just expired..

i also have a co-worker that had a 2010 Q7, had it for a year, it was in the shop for about 4 months out of the year.. then audi claimed it to be a lemon car. Gave her back the money for the car and she went to a Lexus instead.. she would never own an audi again..

Just for your info.. Audi and Mercedez is famous for having their cars sit at their shops. Hope you wont have the same issue.

Thank you! It is definitely a looker. I can't stop staring at it.

I too have heard some negative things about Audi, but I never, EVER keep cars past 45k miles or a couple years so hopefully I won't have issues with this one between now and then. Hopefully. Shoot at this rate maybe I just better get a damn Accord and call it a day.

Congrats, beautiful car. A few people on this forum have switched from Acura to other brands due to unresolved issues.

All the best with the Audi and be sure to check in with us from time to time.

Thanks, KarKraze. I will definitely still be around the forum... Acura was my first love. That's for sure.

Congrats on the new car and hope you have better luck with it.

I was kind of scratching my head at this, but is there a reason no one mentioned the alternator? Maybe I just missed it? Does the Acura have an indicator for that? I've had one of my old Z cars come out of the dusty body shop with the alternator making less voltage without me knowing, killing the car miles down the road. Seems like it could have potentially been a plausible explanation for this issue as well.

You are so dead on point it isn't even funny. That's actually the first thing I had Acura test - and they ended up testing it several times as my car was constantly being dragged back to the dealership. The alternator tested fine each and every time. Weird, eh?

I believe you may be talking about the previous generation of Mercedes. The new generation (since 2008), especially the C-class, has greatly improved reliability and is no longer known for their past screw ups.

Congratulations on your new Audi A6. One of the neighbors has an A5 coupe and it looks stunning.

Ah, I see where you said that in your original post now, sorry for missing it. I'd be curious how they tested it. Did you ever personally put a voltmeter across the battery terminals while it was running?

As far as shorts, etc, I've known guys to test their entire electrical system wire by wire, but those are on older cars, I can't imagine how many wires are in the TLs! Would be a fun (read: not in any way fun at all) weekend project with a wiring diagram and a voltmeter.

birdy*feet....Let me add my name to the long and growing list of congrats and well wishes with your new Audi! I am not going to lie.....I am very envious as that is a great looking set of wheels. I am always drawn to the brand and everytime I get close to do the switch, I get "cold*feet" and then go back to my comfort zone of Acura. That being said, if I'd had the problems you experienced with your TL, I'd likely would have done the same thing. I am somewhat thinking that your problems developed as a result of your accident...either the collision itself or something that happened at the repair shop that threw your car out of whack. Electrical problems are just a nightmare to diagnose and when they develop, they can drive a person off the deep end.

Best of luck, stay in touch and post a picture of that red dress *lol*

You know, I'd be a liar if I told you I was back in the bay while my car was being worked on, and I never tested it myself. When I was younger, I used to love to get dirty in the driveway and have a few beers and tinker with my cars. Now, I just don't have the time and it's no longer on my priority list. Right now, I just want something that is reliable, comfortable, and has plenty of room in the backseat.

Either way, the Audi has really knocked me off my feet. I love the TL, but this car is just ridiculous on another level.

I appreciate that, truly. The issues could very well have been a direct result of the car getting smacked ---- but I just know I wasn't trying to stick around to find out. I got a great trade value and the Audi dealership I worked with was AMAZING. So... Yeah. Mystery about the TL though...

I am not trying to be rude here, but did you read my thread? My guess is that you did not. This is not normal. Why would I get rid of a brand new car over nothing? Posts like this blow my mind.
