What can I get for my '12 SH-AWD 6 spd manual?

So I can get a great deal on a BMW 535 6 spd manual (brother works at BMW). Wanted to see what I could get for my car (car is too new for kbb). I have about 11K miles on it. What do you guys think I can get for it? Thanks

Omar

If you're actually going to post it for sale, it belongs in the Black Market.

I'll leave your thread open as long as you don't openly solicit to sell it here.

If I was in the market for a used 2012, I would probably also be looking at a brand new one's price. Since we are getting to the model year end and there are incentives on the table, personally I would look to pay $38k for a new one and hypothetically, would max offer you $36k for yours.

Honestly though, it's not an easy model to come by so if you find the right buyer who wants this car and can't find one, I could see someone paying up $38k for it. OTOH, I think $35k is the low point on a private sale, that is assuming excellent condition. Trade in would probably be $3k-$5k less but on the rare ocassion, some dealers are willing to essentially break even on trades to make a new car sale, so it depends.

The way I see it, this can go one of two ways if trading it in. With the car being so new and not having very strong pre-determined used, trade, or auction values, you could gain a slight edge in dealer negotiations if you find the right dealer but then again, I have seen some people take the biggest beatings in this situation because the dealer doesn't know what to expect based on auction values or doesn't have a lot to go off of, so they low ball the crap out of it to be safe and because they know you just bought a new car and want out, so why not?

That's when we usually hear the complaints about the car's resale value. In general, the dealer is not your friend when it comes to you car's resale. It's up to you to protect that and work towards making sure you get it. For your situation, I would see what the dealer is willing to do and also be prepared to list on the high side but negotiable and then come down if there is little to no interest.

I'd would be tough for someone to buy your car over the dealer. Dealer price might be higher than yours but dealer has incentives and financing offers.

Good luck though!

11k miles for a 2012 is pretty high - that's probably your lone black mark if the car is in good shape otherwise. Also bear in mind that the curve of automobile depreciation has that abrupt drop off the moment you drive it off the lot. If 1st year value depreciation is say 20% - then 19% of it is when you drive it off the lot as far as dealers and buyers are concerned.

I don't drive more than normal. I bought the car in June 2011, so it's pretty average for the mileage

My brother is a service manager, they got a 2010 535i fully loaded with 6spd manual that they are having difficulty moving. I can get it for around $28-29K. So they probably won't be willing to take another 4 dr luxury car with a manual transmission lol

Ya I had that for about two weeks and was way too boring. They agreed to take it back and allow me to buy my 6spd instead

28k to 29k for 2010 bmw 535!! Wow that sounds like a steal! Acura is not producing any more 6mt tl's for the 2012 model year.

So the new ones on the lots are it, and just before i bought my new 6mt - i did a search for a used cpo 2012 and didnt find any. I bet with the right buyer you could get 38k-40k.

Ya that's what I was thinking. And it's got all the packages; even the ventilated seats package! It does have 55K miles though.. Decisions decisions. My thought process has been that if I can get about 35-36K for my car I would do it... I'll see. Thanks for all the replies

Get an estimate from car max. It will be low because they need to resell it to make a profit but will give you an idea of where you are at since no one here really knows.

I know its a great deal on the BMW, but you just said it has 55k miles on it.... whats the warrantee on the car? is it BMW CPO? Even with your brother being the service manager, you are taking a huge risk if it is near the end of its warrantee......

BMW parts are not cheap and the mechanic still needs to get a pay check.....

I would keep the TL knowing that you have it covered and you could always pick up the Acura Care package to bring it to 2018 or 120k miles....

Ok, 2010 BMW 535, means a car that's 2 model years older, 55K, no warranty, and $29,000. Also, cost of service and parts. Is it really worth it? I know it's a "BMW" and it may be a great car, but really......?? Is it that much better to warrant the urge to trade?

Lol, I was waiting to see who would bring up the "bmws are expensive" conversation.

Honestly though, I wouldn't buy any od these "luxury vehicles" out of warranty.

The 535 price does seem low - maybe that's the going depreciation rate for previous model 5 series, but I don't know the market for those cars. But as others have said, I certainly wouldn't do it without a substantial extended warranty.

His brother is the service manager. He shouldn't have to worry too much about repair bill.

Also, It's not that expensive to fix German car at local shops. My family has been driving german cars for many years. When problem came up, we brought the car to dealer for free diagnosis, then bought parts and had it repaired at a local shop.

That's pretty much the going rate for that 5 series as equipped (non CPO). Unless you really prefer that car and/or want to save money in some way or another, I wouldn't buy it on the basis that it is a perceived steal. From what I can gather, $25k or better (warranty included) is what begins to look like a great deal for that car.

55K on a 2 yr old car is a lot of mileage , consider that before buying it and moreover out of warranty

Omar,

You want to trade a car you bought new with only 11k miles on it for an almost three year old car (assuming built in '09) with 55k miles on it?

Personally I wouldn't, but it is your money. I would just ask what the BMW dealer would offer you for your car. What do you owe on the TL?
