Washing front light

I noticed on www.acura.ca

On all the pictures , we could see a square just under the front light. There's no square on US website pics.

So do you think there's a sprayer hidden to wash the lens of the light?

no. I would imagine that is for the engine heater plug in.

That is interesting. The squares are on both sides so I doubt it's a block heater connection.

It's definetly headlights washers. And they can be installed on US models too, we have to buy them (it's usefull to have canadian tl vin code) and to cut the front bumper a bit.

Headlight washers and they're not present on stock US models. Like the above poster mentioned, it may be possible to install them by cutting into the bumper.

they're headlight washers..... and we CAN'T TURN THEM OFF!!!!!! they're sorta useful in snow and freezing rain, that's about it. the rest of the time, they just waste a whole lot of washer fluid! not to mention it gets all over the bumper/hood/fenders.

Agreed, but they only work when the headlights are on.

Yeah... but do you really need them to spray on the first time u wash ur windshield? every time u drive with the lights on?

and would it have hurt to put in an off switch? lol

I talked to a service advisor, and he asked me why do i want to disable it. I said i dont want it eating thru my wax, afterall, it's alcohol. He said "well, if u put it like that, normal windshield sprayers get it all over the roof for ages, they're fine. There's no off switch because it's a safety thing." I replied with "well, cars have been fine without headlight washers for just as long, and their fine. It's not a safety thing, Nice try." he looked at me laughed and said "i know, i tried" haha

It is a requirement in some countries (mostly European) to have headlight washers when you have HID headlights to prevent glare to other motorists when the lights are dirty. Although I don't think they are required here in Canada though.

If your windshield is dirty, it's probable that your lights are dirty as well, given they are lower and closer to the road debris.

Yes, having an extra switch for it would be useful for sure!

You Sir, are correct! I think it is a useful feature. Especially in snow, when the salt covers literally the whole car.
Another feature European cars must have with HID's is automatic leveling.

It was one of my old post. Owning a 2012TL for a week with this feature. I agree with you we should be able to have one button to clean the headlight when we like and not only everytime your headlights are on and you want to clean the windshield

Where you really will appreciate them is those snowy/salty days on the road when you have to constantly clean your windshield. At night you will also be spraying your headlights when the lights are on. If you live in Florida, you can always spray the bugs off your headlights.

But I do agree, they should be an option. BMW offers them as an option with heated seats or only heated seats without it.

Not necessarily true, I partly agree. Sometimes i need to spray my windshield because there's little specs of tree sap... or light coat of dust. Both of those situations would not affect my headlights to the point where it needs to be cleaned.

I live in the big city, so there's street lights all over. I noticed that if im on a road with no street lights, small things on the windshield wouldn't bother me as much. Actually, they would go unnoticed!!

If there's snow or freezing rain, then they are useful, but in my opinion, it's just one more thing to break/go wrong. If they made it so that they're only activated when I push the switch, then i wouldn't be annoyed. lol

makes sense.
But i didnt think the TL was offered in europe. ?
euro spec also requires rear fog. I'd gladly trade in my headlight washer for a rear fog instead! (one that's NOT cut into my bumper!) haha

It should be the driver who controls when to spray the headlamps alone, not the car.

I would be more annoyed of the fact of using my wipers and washer fluid and smiring along with that to remove tree sap from my windows than the spay from the headlight washer! But, that's just me.

fresh sap comes right off. only smears if it's on for more than a day.

this is just nice to have feature... here in Canada too, not required by law (like in Europe)
I think there shall be some fuse that you can remove to disable, if you want.
I have the same thing on my other car (Volvo S60 05), it works every third windshield wash (I've no idea how it works on 4th gen ATL, I have 2005 3rd gen)

I hope you are washing your car every day then because your wipers certainly don't wash the rest of your car.

There is a separate button that you press. When the lights are on and you press the headlight washer button they activate, not every time you use your windshield washers.

^^^^^

This is the thing that baffles me.

When Acura decides to put in a separate button dedicated for the driver to control the headlight washers, why the need to also trigger the headlight washers automatically, when the very first time the windshield washer is used while the headlights are on ?

As far as I've seen from my '09,
The headlight washers only activate when the lights are on and the button is pressed.
With the lights on, they do not activate when utilizing the windshield washers at all, they are a seperate system.

^unless they made the 09's sensible, and screwed 2010 and up... something is wrong with ur car.
the headlight washers come on the FIRST time u wash ur windshield with the lights on. then after that, they're operated normally with the button.
