Used TL FWD costing more than SH-AWD?
We have been looking this past week at Gen 4 TL models (particularly 2012-2014) and have been surprised in several cases: the best deals seem to be on the comparatively rare SH-AWD models, coming in at a couple grand less than comparatively equipped/mileage FWD models. I'm in the Los Angeles area, where AWD isn't a necessary feature. (We were at 81 on Christmas Day while the nation froze!)
Outside of weather demands that might otherwise drive AWD pricing higher in "weather" parts of the country, can anyone surmise as to why SH-AWD versions (circa 2013) would be bargains compared to the FWD standard versions? Are there increased repair costs once the RDXs reach a decade in age or certain mileage? Is this related to the 3.7 engine oil consumption problems?
Also, is there anyone who, having bought a SH-AWD, wished that you had bought FWD instead?
Thank you for any input!

The SH AWD system aids handling. Its not just a "bad weather" AWD.
Usually, apples to apples, SH AWD cars cost a bit more than FWD.
The 3.5 in FWD cars is less problematic, though. And the FWD gas mileage is better (which is why they may be more expensive in CA at the moment).
The FWD ride quality is also softer and more forgiving.

Aside from 3.7 oil consumption issues the AWD system has a very expensive prop shaft driving the back wheels. When the non serviceable centre bearing fails the whole prop shaft requires replacement. With no aftermarket support that has a dealer cost around $1800 Cdn up here in Canada. I bought my car because it has a manual transmission and am very happy with it. The front wheel drive auto would be a very nice ride as well.

I'd ask for documentation that the oil consumption repair (new rings and piston crowns) has been performed. If it has, oil burning is no longer an issue to be concerned about.
