Used 2010 TL..80k miles-should I buy it?
New to this site but love the 4g tl to death. Looking at a few online and wondering if I should buy a 2010 TL with 80 thousand miles on it.. price is 19,000. Or pay 24, 000 for the same car with 45, 000 miles.... I only ask because I can buy the cheaper on with cash.. but I would hav to finance the more expensive one..... does anybody own a 4G TL with that many miles on it? If so how is it holding up???.

Welcome phillyquick,
80k miles is alot for a 2010 - so you would think there hwy miles, not bad since it's a Honda.
$5k more for just about half the miles.......tough call. It sure sounds nice to pay cash for a 4G TL.

What wrong with paying cash for the $19K as you've intimated you're in a position to do and finance the remainder, thereby cutting the mileage by half as HeartTLs suggested? I can tell you as a relatively new owner, it's a great car inside and out and it's powered by a very peppy engine. If it is something you've been itching to have, then why not? Go for it and make use of the AcuraZine resource. It's free you know....

My rule of thumb if buying used: It has to be under 50K miles and like new condition.

What is the useful life of those 40k miles? How much do you drive? probably 2-3 years. Look at it like a math problem... How long will you keep the car, how much are you paying per year (can do PV calc's if you want to get really fancy)
$2-2,500 per year for the extra 40k miles off the cuff sounds like a decent deal, but you can do that math based on how much you drive and how much use you tend to get out of cars.

I bought it with 22K miles in early November, 2011, so I've racked up the miles pretty quickly.
The problems I've had to date are the same ones you'll see on here...torque converter, OEM battery, speakers blown, etc.

an adult perspective
put the 84K miles on my car in just a tad over 3 years ... but the last 10 months did not include the daily 135 mile round trip. only/ONLY reason I got rid of it was I just didn't want/need the sedan and went back to my coupe roots. but ... is this or either car you're considering an AWD or FWD model? I would definitely weigh that into consideration.

Ok its a awd with 80k and awd with 45k....the issue isi have a check from my bank for a personal loan and I I pay 20k then finance the rest then ill be paying double intrest because it becomes 2 loans... so i would either have to use my 20k for less expensive one with 80k miles or finance through the dealrship for the other with 45k but the price is bit higher by around 5 grand. They also have a 2010 silver fwd with tech for 20k toooo... but I hate those stock 17inch wheels on the fwd!
Same thing I was thinking....

To be clear- is the 20k in cash to be actual cash that you've saved, or is it the proceeds of a personal loan?
Personal loans have significantly higher interest rates than a car loan because it's not tied to collateral. You'd be better off going with a car loan. If you can't qualify for a car loan for $20k car, then buy a cheaper car.

If the only/main consideration is broken down into:
19k @ 80k miles
vs
24k @ 45k miles
Then I would easily pay 5k more for 35k miles less. Take out a 24k car loan imo through the dealership and leave your 20k personal loan alone. 80k miles is a lot for a $19,000 used car... even if it's a TL.

I think ill just finance through the dealership. Seems like a better choice.... they also have a fwd 2010 for 20k but I think I have already eliminated that as an option. ..
Hopefully by monday ill be a new TL owner!

It sounds to me like you're new to all this and I don't mean that in a condescending way. You might want shop around more for car loans because as already mentioned, personal loans carry higher interest rates. You also seem to be forgeting that a 19K car costs more than 19K because of taxes/registration. If the dealer states xx price make sure they don't add transportation and documentation fee's later on or at least negoiate them down.

A couple of comments: Booya4139, Kahta & HeartTLs all have some solid points. Another idea might me to go to your local bank & get pre-approved for a car loan before u go to the dealership. The interest rates will vary based on the year model of the car but your bank should be able to provide you with a good idea of the rates and estimate your payment prior to finalizing the purchase. You may then walk into the dealer and make them fight for your business by giving you the best rate & terms that meet your needs. Back to your origianl question onmwhich TL to buy, you can also check the carfax (the dealer may provide this for free to you) and you can also call the original selling Acura dealer, or your local Acura dealers service dept and ask what repairs were done & if there are any outstanding recalls or TSBs. This info may help you make your final decision. I've owned 4 Acuras and high mileage should not be an issue if it was maintained. Good luck!
