Umber question
Umber question
I know there are other threads out there about the Umber interior but I wanted to see what you guys currently think. I have a 2011 TSX MT Tech but I wanted a TL because of the AWD and they are bigger for my kids in the backseat. I have always had black interior vehicles. The only TL with a MT in my area is a 2010 Mayan Bronze Metallic with Umber interior. I drove it yesterday and I love they way it drives with the MT. Very responsive and fast.
At first I said no way with the Umber but it kinda grew on me as I was driving it. I was wondering if I am deluded by the driving experience or if the Umber is a good color. I know it's a personal preference but was wondering what the acurazine TL'ers thought.
BTW they want just under 29K. It has 32K miles.

The 2010 MBM with Umber is the exact car I have in a 6MT. I could not be happier with the interior. It gives the car a little more personality in my opinion than the standard black interior does. My brother has a 2010 black on black and my opinion is that the Umber is much more unique.
Thanks for your responses. Stella, how do you like your 2010 since you have the exact car I am looking at. I almost made the deal yesterday after driving it but I wanted to sit on it for a little bit. I think I made up my mind yesterday that I wasn't going to buy it based on pictures. I just wanted to see how the 2010 drove compared to my TSX. After driving it I didn't want to give it back.
It's absolutely fantastic. Other than the usual complaints about how 50-60 more HP would be nice I have zero complaints about this car. Minor minor issues may include that they don't have bi-xenon headlights whereas my old 2007 did, and MAYBE I would even go so far as to say that the sunroof could open 2 - 3 inches more.
In other words, fantastic car.

I had a umber on grigio gray metallic. Besides the SH-AWD, this was one of the reasons why I bought it. Umber is a very unique color for a jap car, usually you would find these in European cars like BMW or Audi. Classy color IMO and gives the 4g character (not that it doesn't have it i.e. the beak lol). I'm not a big fan of the Mayan bronze though. 6MT on a midsize luxury sedan is rare. I love the short throw and smooth tranny. Very precise. One of the best in the business.

I love the umber with a couple of caveats. First when I was shopping around I did see a Mayan Bronze with umber interior. This is one of the few combinations that, in my opinion, does NOT look good. The colors clash and just somehow don't look right together--at least for me. Second the tone of umber used in the TL is not nearly as nice looking as the tone of umber used in the BMW's, which is where I first saw this color interior. Seems like the umber in the TL just has too much orange in it.
Again it clearly comes down to personal preference and just as many might prefer the more orange umber in the TL.

Ya, i prefer the BMW brown interior a bit more than umber. I can see why people like it though. Just like BMW does that red interior that i think it really tacky, people love it...
I had a ebony interior, now have umber, I love it. Looks very unique and classy, friends with other makes that step into my car and aren't familiar with Acura are pleasantly surprised by it.
It is a more delicate color than ebony. Personally I also love MBM because it's such a rare color, that color combo with 6MT is EXTREMELY rare.

I have a 2010 6MT MBM with umber as well and love the combination. When my wife saw pics before I bought it used, she didn't like the "orange" interior, but she likes it now, and I think it looks better in person (though I also liked it in the pics I found too, like these hi-res ones: http://www.autoblog.com/photos/revie...#photo-2709436 ). I also like the matching stitching on the steering wheel, which stands out nicely with the umber.
We recently had a hailstorm (I was lucky - only minor dings). At one of of the mass adjuster locations where they examine hundreds of cars per day a few of the adjusters who weren't busy came over to look at the car and interior, raving about it saying they had never seen a car like it.
It's definitely a matter of personal taste, but I like it and have gotten a number of compliments.

Umber is an amazing color. Go check out some detailed pics on Sandros Zdx on the Zdx forums. It truly is a stunning color with the MBP imop.
also even by me where there is as many tls as civics the umber is really rare. I don't think acura produces very many cars with the umber interior.
Hmmm...tough one. I was kinda in the same boat as you. I had an '09 AT w/ sh-awd but was looking around for a '10 6MT and found one but when I got to the dealer it was getting detailed so I had an opportunity to drive a '13 6MT and loved that new car smell lol. I had no intention of looking into a '13 but curiosity got the best of me and started looking around asking for quotes. Next thing you know, I got an offer that was just $30 more than what I was paying for monthly on the '09 that I couldn't walk away from knowing that I really wanted a 6MT. This is my first brand new car that I ever owned. If you can somehow get the payments close to the '10 and if you really like the car, go for it man. It's whatever puts a smile on your face when you look at it and when you're in it. The last thing you want to have is buyer's remorse. It's a biggest investment next to buying a house for the average American. Although, black and black is nice but hard to keep clean. Slick and sleek though.
The 2010 is priced at just under 29K with 32k in miles. The 2013 was quoted at 39.5K w/o tax, license and all that stuff and includes loyalty rebate. Not hard to figure out that it's a 10k difference. I did figure payments because the dealership is a non-negotiaion dealer. I also figured that the interest rate is going to be a little lower on a new car. With all things being equal down payment, term, etc, except interest rate being a little higher on the 2010 the payment will go up $200 a month for 4 years. $188 for 5. I try to avoid 60 month loans. I try to pay this stuff as fast as possible.
LawnPro, it was also a 10K price difference. The '10 was advertised for 29.9K w/28K miles and the '13 was 40K. After incentives and trade it, the '10 was 27K I think and the '13 was 37K. Difference was around 100 or 200 I think LOL. This was a couple months ago and I have short term memory.
scottyrocket53, screw that dealer. Keep shopping. Also, is the '10 CPO? Reason why I ask is if it is, the APR on CPO TLs are quite low. Last I check it was 2.9% or 3.9% for a 60 month term. Even lower for a 48 month term. And if you are buying used, make sure it's CPO to cover any major repair bills. You'd have to finance thru Acura though.

Wow...easy choice....the 2010...10k off...plus umber is the best interiors I seen from Acura ...it looks so much better than black or ebony. ...all look very nice ..but umber is just another level at least for me...
Other thing..I know that im maybe alone on this but a like the grill of the 2010 much better..but if it is painted or the exterior is black or white...only my honest opinion..

Team Acura-the 2010 was CPO. I saw that quite a few people were getting 13's for 37. Has that been your experience? If so I might be looking out of state then. I don't mind looking for another dealer if the car is new not much risk just the pain of getting to the car. The 2010 pulled to the left and I felt a pulse when I hit the brakes. They were going to check those out. They said the brakes could pulse from sitting too long. It felt like warped rotors to me. I'm waiting to hear what they say.
scottyrocket53, I would say that is on the cheap end. 40K is the invoice for the dealers. Realistically, you should find '13s for ~38K with incentives. Keep in mind I had equity on my trade in and that lowered the sale price. I traveled close to 80 miles to find the deal that worked for me.
Also, I know the feeling when you drive a used car and find out things that turned you off especially when you're financing a good chunk of change. You want it to be "like new" and in perfect condition. It's hard to find used cars like that. Granted, there will always be flaws since it is a used car. It's expected. I could live with some flaws but stuff that bothers me I tend to back away from. That's one of the reasons why I needed up getting new instead. If I'm going to spend that much I might as well get new unless I'm fully satisfied with the used car. So to me the used car has to be almost perfect with low miles and like new condition.

Don't be afraid to wait them out and negotiate if you go for the used one. I was in no hurry and was able to get mine for $25.5k last October, with 18k miles. It was a unique situation because the guy I got it from bought it used as a mfr buy-back (lemon law due to a rattle that I couldn't hear, though since buying it I have heard an occasional rattle here and there).
Between having over a year left on the warranty, Honda quality, and obviously being well taken care of by the seller (an engineer), I took the leap and have had only one problem since then (the hill start assist error light - a common issue on 6MTs).
