Transmisson 4G: Trans Fluid
Just wondering does anyone with 4G auto trans run anything else beside DW-1?
If so which fluid and why did you change and/or any other thoughts on it. (Just curiously and bored atm)

Amsoil recommends their own ATF if you go to their fluid site. They do not make a recommendation for the rear differential though. They have the Severe Gear 75w90 for the transfer case and the Sig Series ATF

I just changed my ATF at 65K with Castrol Transmax and the car is shifting silky smooth. I had done the 3x3 at around 42K with DW-1 and lately the car has been a bit clunky especially when cold. So I figured I would do a 3.5 out and 3.5 back in with some Transmax I had around for my other car. After about 500 miles I am very happy with the results. The car is night and day better. Will update if anything changes.

I did 1x3 with Redline racing fluid so effectively the racing fluid is just under 1/3rd of my total fluid. The rest is DW1 Honda fluid. This summer, I will do another 1x3 to bring that percentage closer to 50% racing and 50% OEM.
It is a common misconception that smooth/soft shifts are better for your transmission. It is actually the opposite. The harder the shifts, the less friction there is in the clutch packs. Less friction means less wear, less heat, and less spent clutch material floating around in your ATF.
The big benefit of the racing fluid is that is has no friction modifiers. It doesn't allow the clutch packs to slip as much thus the harder shifts. It also makes the shifts quicker as the engagement of the clutches becomes faster.
Anyways, there is a lot of material on this in the 3G forum. A huge number of 3G guys are running the Redline fluid and are very happy with the results.

I used redline MTF in my 08 civic si, that car had a common problem of the 3rd gear popping out occasionally. Was very happy with the product, although i will admit it may have been part placebo as freshening up the MTF with OEM may have also helped the feel and its tough to differentiate what that delta would be.
