Trailering a Waverunner
Trailering a Waverunner
I own a 2009 TL SH-AWD and I plan to purchase a waverunner at the end of the season. My plan is to purchase a Reese hitch, an Extend-a-Hitch tongue extension, a Triton trailer and a Yamaha ski. The combined weight is about 900lbs and since I've never trailered anything before with my TL, I'm concerned it may damage or stress the engine. I've got 100,000 miles on the TL and I'm on the fence about trading it in to get something a bit more suitable for towing. I absolutely LOVE my TL!!!! Am I stressing over something I shouldn't be?

I have been thinking about a hitch to carry bikes on back of car.

The sh-awd TL is already equipped with an auxiliary tranny cooler. I would never put an aftermarket inline ATF filter unless I was looking for unnecessary trouble. I've seen aftermarket filters fail causing a restriction in flow and a leading to an overheated transmission.
It's always better to change ATF a bit more often rather than rely on an extra filter.
To the OP: You should have no problem towing 1000 lb with the TL. It has plenty of power and cooling capacity to handle the additional weight and drag. The limiting factor when it comes to towing with sedans is often the strength of the frame rather than any power/cooling limitations.
