Torque Converter- 2009 - 2014

I would like to throw the question out there to the 4G members.

Is there anyone who has not done the Torque converter repair on there 2009 - 2014?

Meaning that the transmission has not been an issue.

I am just curious to know if all the 4G is affected.

Car at Acura for Repair.

The car is at Acura for the gurgling sound repair. Yes it is for the transmission filter.

They will also be looking at the Torque converter due to engine lag with vibration going up incline around 1200-1500rpm.

Also trying to replace drive shaft too, this morning it was about 9 degrees cel. going into work on the highway and I could hear the whining sound, I also hear this when I slow down to come to a stop.

Car is still under warranty so I hope they will fix these issues.

I have a '12 SH-AWD w/tech - 36K miles - no torque converter issues (yet) - have had both the gurgling filter and propeller shaft replaced.

I had the t/c replaced a few months back and I am suspecting its going out again. Under hard throttle, 2nd gear is shifting kinda rough from time to time. It's only been 2-3k miles since the replacement. Gonna have to take it in when the rough shifting becomes more consistent.

My 2012 has over 70K miles and no TC issues. I did have the prop shaft replaced and the trans filter (gurgling) replaced. I pretty much follow the maintenance minder.

I have to say I really like how Acura has programmed the lockup. I really get annoyed now driving my wife's Pilot or my old Civic when the TC unlocks at the smallest throttle application. That rubber-band feeling just doesn't exist in my TL. And I recently got a loner Civic when my Civic was in for service and absolutely HATED the new CVT.

FWIW, I drive in Sport-M mode most of the time and shift manually. Dunno if that would make any difference at all to the life of the TC.

2012 FWD with 29k miles

My RPM had started to surge on light throttle uphill climbs. Took my car in this week and they changed the transmission fluid. The fluid change has seemed to solve the issue but only time will tell, I'm warranted until 2017 so I'm not too concerned.

almost exactly the same +/- 1k miles, I'm worried that is is coming soon. The prob is after reading about it i am always looking for it and almost convinced myself after every hesitation or jump that it is starting.

I have an appointment for mine at the end of the month, I have the gurgling/bubbling transmission sound at cold start, and I am around 15k miles right now. The gurgling sound started since the last oil change.

Technician took the car for a test drive after transmission filter replace and software update but wasn't able to replicate the lagging or vibration from the engine or the sound from the driveshaft. The car has only 22k Kms. In the meantime I will drive more to see if the sound that I am hearing gets worse.

'12 TL Advance FWD here. No issues other than the gurgling transmission filter. 52k miles on the car so it was out of warranty. Acura wanted $303 to fix it. Honda dealer wanted $160 for the same fix. Guess which dealer I went with. Honda was much nicer to deal with also.

2009 TL w/Tech FWD and pretty close to 80k...haven't noticed an issue yet, but the TL is our cruiser, usually don't "mash on it", every now & then I go through the gears or accelerate hard. I get my "go-fast fix" in my 09 STi (stage 2 mods)

'11 with 54k. I just bought it, but there's no record of the prop shaft or TC being addressed or even investigated by previous owner. I have no symptoms of either (knock on wood).

My 12 FWD with 38K miles seems to have a transmission problem. The car does not vibrate or shudder, the symptoms are more like lugging the engine on a manual transmission. It happens between 1-2K RPM if I'm slightly pressing the gas peddle. The RPM needle will flutter up and down rapidly. If I step on the gas and upshift, the problem goes away. Could this be a problem with the torque converter?

Mine is at 65k and I notice a hard downshift when breaking from around 40-35mph down a hill and car jerks a bit trying to find the lower gear. Sounds like I have the makings of a TC issue. Has anyone else experienced that where the RPM's jump up and then drop during breaking? I still have warranty and will be making an appointment to have it looked at soon. 2010 TL.....also has anyone excelerated from going 70+ on the highway and felt a hard jerk/knock to get up to speed.

My previous 09' awd had both Tc and driveshaft issued. Once fixed was great. My 13' 6 spd just had drivr shaft issue at 4k. My acura dealer swears im the only 2 tl driveshafts he has replaced. Seems bs to me.

I have a 2010 TL SH-AWD. The propeller shaft was replaced at 51k and the torque converter was replaced a couple weeks ago at 73k. Note that I was told the torque converter warranty has been extended to 100k, so I didn't pay for any of that work or ports.

2013 SH-AWD, 25,000 mi and no transmission or t/c issues that I am aware of. When I drive it smoothly, the car is smooth but if driven hard, the shift is apparent. I didn't notice any drop in rpm while accelerating. Any other signs I should be looking for?

2012 SH-AWD. Started acting up around 36K miles. Took three trips to the service department for them to finally see it. It started with horrible shifts from 2-3 gear. After a couple thousand miles the rpm's would surge under light acceleration, specifically around 40 mph with rpm's around 1500.

Torque converter fixed the problem but now the streering wheel makes a clicking noise when initially turned from center position. Back I go to the dealership, again.

Mine should be done today - brought it in last week for TC replacement. I look forward to driving it with the replacement. Just under 38K miles, however the majority of those are city miles. I hope the new part has been redesigned or something, hate to only get 40K out of a part that important

Funny how mine is almost the same specs...I would look for hesitation or even just a sluggish shifting in lower gears. They classified mine as "starting to slip" and now I can tell when it's shifting smoothly; especially noticeable when starting from a stopped position eg at a traffic light.

Got my car back tonight - on the 45 minute drive home, mostly city around 45 mph the shifts were super smooth and no noticeable tach hunting even on hills. The car is idling a little rougher than normal, but I wonder if that won't work itself out after a few miles on the new TC. The shifting was so smooth my better half even commented on it. Now I gotta order new tires, and hope for at least 4 more trouble free years
