Took Delivery of My New TL Advance

After putting in my order for exactly what I wanted a few months ago (graphite luster metalic with the greystone interior), my 2014 TL SH-AWD with the advance package came in last week. I cannot tell you how happy I am with the car. It is very responsive with the 19" rims and 40 series tires that come with the Advance package and the power from the 3.7 V6 is strong (and I haven't even gone past 4,000 rpms yet since I am still under 600 miles). It is really nice to have the blind spot system showing when there is a car next to you. Yes, I still double check before changing lanes, but if the light is already on, I know it is not even worth looking because there is someone next to me already. Once the light goes out, I know it is worth looking to change lanes. My fear was this light going on and off each time a car was next to me would be annoying, but I find just the opposite now. I really only notice the light if i am glancing at the mirrors, and it is not intrusive at all. Although we have not had any hot days in the last week, the ventilated seats will be really nice when it does heat up. Another really nice feature is that both the heated and ventilated seats shut off when the car is shut down so when I use the heated seats in the morning, they do not turn back on in the afternoon when I come back to the car (I used to forget to shut off the switch in my old car and would only realize it when the seat started to heat up a few minutes after taking off in the afternoon).

When you factor in over 300 horsepower, super handling all wheel drive, navigation, blind spot warning system, heated and ventilated seats, keyless system for everything with the memory settings for 2 drivers, HID lights, bluetooth audio and USB hook up as well, and the HDD stereo system, this car is really a steal for the price. Come to think of it, I do not know of another car out there that has all of these items or more for the same or less money.

I know the thread is worthless without pictures, so here are the required photos:

Congrats on the new car! That is, in my opinion, the best color combo!

Very nice looking car! Congrats on the new TL!

Did you get a good deal, given it's a 2014?

Thanks. That is why I ended up ordering the car and waiting for it. I could not find a SH-AWD with the advance package in that color combo anywhere in the area. Now that it is here, I am really glad I waited because I really love the color combo and would have always been saying what if I waited had I just gone with what was on the lot at the time.

If i had gone with a 2013, I am sure I would have saved more, but then I would have been settling for a car that did not have the color combo and package that I wanted. I looked in the area and even the next states, but could not find the exact color/package combo I was looking for. My thoughts were I would rather spend a little more and get exactly what I wanted rather then settle for something less and save a few dollars. This is especially true in my case since I tend to keep cars for over 10 years and I would not want to be saying "what if" every time I saw a TL in graphite luster. The dealer did discount car a little bit and Acura just came out with 0.9% financing on the 2014 TL for 36 months and 1.9% if you want to go 60 months. It is really hard to beat the 0.9% right now, and even the 1.9% if you choose to go out to 60 months.

By ordering the car, I was also able to get a brand new car with 2 miles on it at delivery, and one that had never been "detailed", which usually puts swirls in the paint if it is done by someone who doesn't know or care how to properly detail a car. The dealer was really nice and let me take delivery without cleaning the car up so that I could do a proper 2 bucket wash (you can look at the forums over at adamspolishes.com to see what I mean) at home with clean wash mits and no swirls in the paint (I am pretty anal about detailing and end up washing and detailing the car a lot more often then the average owner). I will probably wait for another few weeks or so to make sure the paint has cured and then do a full detail using the Adam's clay bar, fine machine polish and then top it off with their Americana wax. It should look really nice after that.

Beautiful car. Congrats on the pick up. Once you get a few miles on it and are able to stretch its legs a bit, you'll really come to love the SH-AWD. On the right road (lots of turns) it's magical.

Thanks. I think I go too far on the detailing... I usually end up washing at least 4 or 5 times a month (sometimes more) using a 2 bucket wash and have been known to fully detail the car every 2 months or so... It is a sickness, but my wife loves how good our cars look all the time.

Thank you. I am beginning to see what you mean with the SH-AWD. This car handles like it is on rails. With the 40 series tires and the SH-AWD combined on this car, I find that I am going faster into turns than before and accelerating out of turns like never before. It is becoming really addictive

Congrats on your beautiful new TL. I have the same condition you have when it comes to detailing my car. My neighbors think I'm crazy because they always see me outside cleaning my car. It's almost embarrassing but I will continue to keep the TL looking sharp! I get frequent compliments on how "new" it looks.

Black on black looks pretty hot too. How have your tires been holding up? With our 260 treadwear rating, I am guessing they are going to have a shorter life span.

I have a black on black Advance AWD as well. Regarding the tires, I've been pleasantly surprised. I have 48,000 miles on them and I could probably still get through another winter. I go with the 5/32 rule for winter, and I think I have 6 or 7/32 tread left. Can't ask for more than 50k on a 260 treadwear rated tire IMO. They've worn very even. I've rotated maybe 2 or 3 times, had maybe one alignment, and I drive it pretty hard.

Congrats on your purchase. I love the Advance wheels. I get comments on them all the time. Enjoy.

Got 20,000 miles on them and they are holding up well. I drive pretty easy for the most part.
Until I see a Prius trying to pass me, then I give it just enough gas to stay ahead.

great car. Have the same car but it's a 2013 and it's black/black. Never cared too much about the wheels, but I also get comments on them too, like what Buffa has said.

Nice color - I'm not biased or anything I'm having a few troubles with mine around 23K miles, but hopefully the dealer will resolve and I'll love her again. I went with black interior - get some tint and paint the front grill, she'll wow you every time you see her

That's better than I was expecting. If I get 30K out of mine I will be very happy.

heisnuts....Don't even think you can do such a think as washing your car too often. You know very little about me but the flavored Acurazine members will tell you that I am EXTREMELY anal about my vehicles...I have a 2012 TL AWD TECH and a 2013 RDX AWD TECH that have never seen a drop of rain.....how is that for being anal! I wash the underbody of my vehicle....hows that for being anal! *lol* I should stop before I ruin my shotty reputation *lol*

Now that's funny. Thanks for making me feel better (although I have been known to get under the car and clean as well, however my cars do see rain from time to time).

Although I am really anal about the cars, I do really enjoy washing and detailing them. It is really a hobby that I find relaxing and there is nothing like the feeling of finishing up a full detail and having a shiny swirl free paint finish when done.

There's a torque converter issue that appears to happen with 09-12 models. There is a TSB for it, but I don't believe one exists for the '13/'14, so perhaps Acura finally got it worked out. The fix consists of a software update, and in extreme cases replacement of the torque converter. Also just yesterday my subwoofer died.

Thanks. I think Tomcat2048 beat me to the first 2014 last month (an advance model as well..black on black).

Acura calls my interior greystone, which is a very light grey and almost an ash color. I think it blends really nice with the dark exterior, and since mine is the SH-AWD model, only the seats and door panel inserts are greystone and the dash and center console trim stays all black (the FWD models split the dash color half black and half greystone).

Either that, or Acura thinks they have solved it and the '13s and '14s will be added to the TSB later on. The transmission and torque converter should be covered under the 6 year/ 70,000 mile powertrain warranty. I do find that the car likes to get into 6th gear as soon as possible to get the gas mileage I am sure. I find that there are times I use the paddle shifter to bring it down a gear in order to get the rpm's up a little so the engine is not lugging on light acceleration going up a slight slope.
