Pretty sure this is just a dealer gimmick to move vehicles. I don't think Acura has anything to do with this nonsense.

I personally think this insults all of us who own LEGITIMATE Type-S's and de-values the potential (
) mmc 4th Gen Type-S.

The next step for Acura to make the 4G a Type-S would be to take the base model (FWD) with the lighter chassis and give it all the badges and body kit,the Cross drilled and vented rotors but put the 3.7 liter motor in it. Then that would be a Type-S and it would cost $40+ grand.
If they applied the Type-S to the SHAWD model, they would have to up the ante in the HP dept to about 350-365 HP to make up for the added weight and then you would be talking $45+ grand easily.

They're just waiting to kill the RL next year before letting the cat out of the bag.

PetesTl, yes and no.
In the 3G, the 6MT was listed as a "sport" model and by many considered a kind of "Type-S" - it had firmer suspension, bigger sway bars, etc than the base model. Yet Acura STILL relased an actual badged and upgraded MMR Type-S.
I DO expect (my opinion/guess) that the 4G MMR for the 2012 MY will get an actual badged Type-S.
Someone suggested a hybrid and that's a possiblity since the TSX is going hybrid soon, but not sure that would be badged "Type-S"; that badge has been used, in the past, to denote performance and amenity upgrades.
It is of course possible that they may forego the "Type-S" altogther and do a "non-sport" hybrid.

First, I think the pseudo Type S referenced above is way lame.
I do think we will see a Type-S for the 4G. It just has too much marketing equity for Acura, and specifically, the TL.
What might that be? I think we're all speculating. But, a small bump in HP on the 3.7L. Probably a few performance goodies like brembos. Probably some cosmetic goodies, too.
That said, I think the long term outlook for Acura overall will be in the hybrid market. Honda has dabbled in hybrid technology more for performance gains rather than economy gains. If they keep with the train of thought and engineering, I can see a hybrid TL (3.7L + electric motor assist).

Never driven a Type S, but except for the brakes, wouldn't the SH-AWD 6MT outperform the 3G Type S?
If this is the next step, then we are definitely talking about $50+ grand for the car. And it better knock my socks off!!!!
Kinda hoping this is not the case because this could throw EVERYTHING off. I currently have an '07 tl type-s, will be done paying it off in July. I was gonna wait until December or even January to purchase the 4G sh-awd and then in 2013 purchase the 2nd model year of the new Grand Cherokee srt8 but if that statement is correct the 4G type s and the jeep would be coming out around the same time. DAMN DAMN DAMN! If I knew the 4G type-s was a definite for a couple years from now I dont even think i would get another TL until then. decisions, decisions..

I'm not really worried about how big the engine is because we will more than likely see a supercharged or turbocharged high output engine before we see a v8 being used anytime soon. My main thing is if and WHEN they produce another type s, will the funds be available..? Lol

You spelled 500+ hp V10 wrong and didn't mention that it is being designed as a modern 4 door Tyrrell P34 taking SHAWD to the next level.
Ya the days of the Dealers working with the Manufacturer are gone.
