TL or G37X

Thanks.
So, 2 months back I test drove 2011,2012 TL's.. Since I own an 04 TL I love the car. But, the body is bigger on newer TLs. All drove G37X and Lexus IS350.. love the look of Lexus but too small interior. Went with G37X because of the all wheel drive.. Drive a lot in snow!!..
While the G is faster than TL overall, the TL has a quicker response upon initial acceleration. Therefore TL more fun to drive and feels very solid.. G will be great in winter..

If say TL is Sporty, fun, powerful car.. G37 for class, elegance.. Both fast

I've also had both

I previously owned a 2010 TL sw-awd that was a fabulous car to drive. Sadly I discovered six months into ownership that the engine was consuming oil at a ridiculous rate. Unfortunately Acura stated that it was acceptable for the 3.7 to consume up to 1 quart of oil per thousand miles. Needless to say that I did not agree. Luckily the dealership that I purchased the car from agreed to accept it back as a trade against a 2012 G37XS sedan which I'm currently driving. It just worked out that the dealership had Infiniti available but they did not have another Acura at that time.

The Acura is smoother, more refined, offers better handling, better breaking, and better fuel economy. The Infiniti feels faster and sportier, but does not feel as surefooted when you enter a curve.

I often comment to my wife (w
ho drives A 2008 TL type S) that I miss the Acura, while I also enjoy the Infiniti quite a bit. That said, if my Acura had not been consuming oil I would've kept it over the Infiniti in a minute. I contacted Infiniti asking about oil consumption and was advised that they believe its acceptable for their 3.7 to consume no more than a 1/4 of a quart per thousand miles.

I felt cramped driving it hence why we almost went the M37. My wife who is 5'6 would had no problems and loved it however being 6'3, I was not so much. Shoulder room (g37) 55.6 vs 58.2 (TL)

I realize this is a super old thread but since people are still posting I figured I'd chime in. I have both a TL Premium and a G37 Coupe S. I drive the G only on the weekends and only if its nice out, its my "hot rod" lol.. I have all the bolt-ons with a tune and ran a 12.91 at 109, all motor. That being said, I love driving the TL as a daily, its super comfortable, rides like a cloud and far better on gas but its nowhere near as sporty as the G, in any way. They're very different cars and hardly in the same class to even compare. As they say, my .02.

I know this is an old thread originally, but I had to reply.
Those maintenance costs in the charts above are crazy.
I bought our 2010 TL fwd used in 2012. Have had it for 4 years + and it now has 110,000 km on it.
So far I have spent a total of $750 (Canadian) on maintenance and I do all my own work, if possible.
And zero on repairs.

I am now looking for a comfortable & reliable used sport sedan with awd for the canadian winter. Only options with those caractheristics seem to be the G and the TL (Lexus IS is way to small). So far I went to try a 2013 TL sh awd and a 2013 G37x sedan, so here are my 2 cents

2013 TL sh awd advance
  1. Being a big car, it looks way better with the 19 inch weels
  2. Though it does not solve the problem completely, the blindspot monitoring system is a must as rear visibility is pretty poor due to small mirrors, high/small side windows, tiny rear window, and thick rear pillars. Trying to see something when looking over your shoulder is very difficult. (rear visibility was better in 3g TL)
  3. The sh-awd is a must, never seen a car take corners at high speed with such confidence
  4. Front cabin is modern, spacious, confortable, and luxurious. Feels like you could stay in the car for hours, specially with the amazing sound system.
  5. Though on the heavy side, the car feel well planted and have more than enough passing power. Looks like the ideal car for long distance trips
  6. Ride is a balance of sport and comfort, rides more like a GT than rally car
  7. Factor in the legendary Acura reliability and, all in all, it is an awesome car. I just wish the designers had done a better job regarding the rear visibility.
2013 G37x
  1. The design looks like it will not age as well as the TL but it is still ok
  2. Visibilty overall was ok
  3. Handling and power were pretty good
  4. Though a bit outdated, cabin felt luxurious but material slightly cheaper than the TL
  5. Shoulder room is limited and backseat is so so
  6. I expect both gas mileage and reliabilty to be worse than the TL
It is tuff because if not for the poor rear visibility the TL would be the clear winner. Until I get used to the poor rear visibility of the TL, I have to consider the G37x for safety reasons.

Hi Jimmy
I have gone through the same decision points and although I can't disagree with anything you've said, I did go with the 2013 TL SHAWD over the G37X Sedan. I came from a 6sp 02 Maxima and the TL just felt better. I thought the G37X was my old Maxima, updated gauges. Unfair I know. The TL I have, is an Elite model and it has the blind spot monitoring and it works well. I love this car and am happy with my decision.

Thanks for sharing Tom,

I am leaning toward the TL also, probably the 3.5 though as I heard the 3.7 might burn oil in some cases.

The G's are notorious for oil consumption issues. I've also noticed that Infiniti's have "soft" paint. It's hard to rub out small nicks and scratches.
