timing belt / maintenance minder / "algorithm"?

Hello All,

I have a '10 TL w/Tech, 2WD, 99k miles.

It's been a superb car - virtually no complaints. None of the common problems I see described.

I have not changed the timing belt, and based on what I see on this site I suspect there will be a strong recommendation to do it now.

But that's not really my question. What I want to know is this.

According to the Repair Manual, Maintenance #4 says replace the timing belt.

What triggers this #4 on this car? Mileage alone? (What mileage?) Time? Sensing of driving habits and conditions? Some combination of the above? Something else?

I might not wait until I see #4 light up my dash, but I am curious - when will I see it? How does my car "decide"?

Thanks!

Mileage. 105k miles. AFAIK nothing else is factored in.
