Taking oil to an autoshop

Sorry if this is repetitive but I have decided to opt for synthetic oil and the cheapest option is to bring my own synthetic oil. I am going to get mobil1 full synth 5w-20. The coupon im going to use for the autoshop includes an oil filter so is their oil filter fine or should I bring my own as well?

Thanks!

Synthetic oil s the way to go, but the amount of time you drive to the auto shop you could have done it yourself. Really takes less than 10 minutes to change the oil and oil filter. I use Amsoil but have used Mobil-1 in other cars.

You're forgetting he'll most likely will have to drive to an auto shop to dispose of the oil. Changing my vehicles oil is one of those jobs I prefer to pay for than do myself.

i think most auto stores accept engine and transmission oil as well as brake fluid. i know autozone does. you just have to dump it in their vats. i buy the 5qt jug of oil, and pour the used oil back in and go.

as for oil filters

some ppl dont care, some ppl are anal about it, just educate yourself and choose accordingly.

FWIW... if they cross thread or over tighten your oil drain plug, you are in for a new oil pan. It's those simple thing they screw up on.

I agree with C8N. Some knuckle head will overfill your oil or over tighten things. Or worse yet forget to put the drain plug before. Happened to my friend. 30 min of your time and peace of mind about the job done right. Btw watch out for what filters those shops supply. Most likely they'll pop in some cheap fram oil filter or some other substitute. I only by Wix filters. Napa auto parts and batters carry them.
