Is the sports grille the same as Chrome?

I just got a TL and it came with Chrome front and rear trim. Is that the same as the sports grille? Or is it different? I can't seem to find an OEM chrome grille, everything described is Midnight Chrome, but to me I don't see the black in mine. Please advise?

Yes, the midnight chrome grille is considered the sports grille. Its suppose to be a little darker chrome than normal chrome. I dont have the midnight chrome grille so I cant tell you how it really looks.

Yeah the regular grill is plastic, and has a satin finish. The midnight chrome grill is real chrome, and it does have a darker 'tint' to it, but it's not black. Midnight chrome is a lot more glossy, and a bit darker. It looks great (in my humble opinion) on PMM or Grigio.

I heard the regular grille was real metal?

its pretty much the same color as the 07 Type-S grill. Darker chrome.

I have the midnight chrome aka sports grille, and it does turn almost black at night in low light conditions. I think it looks cool on my cbp tl.

As far as matching the accessory wheel pictured above...it's hard to say. Acura describes the wheel as 'chrome', and it is true it has a darker shade than normal chrome and seems to match the sports grille in daylight conditions. But they do not call it 'midnight' chrome...so I would assume it does not turn as dark as the sports grille in low light / night conditions.

So what wheels would look best with the grill?

You ask a great question...and that has been my struggle as well. There are some companies that do black chroming...and you can visit their sites to see pictures etc. but those look darker to me in daylight conditions than the sports grille. After an exhaustive search I have decided to stick to my oem 18 inch 5 spoke awd wheels, at least for now. I wish Acura had an accessory wheel option to perfectly match the sports grille. I'm waiting to see what new wheel options become available with the 2012 mid model change.

You can visit the uswheelexchange, lawheel, and calchrome websites to check out dark chrome pics. uswheel actually had a standard chrome 5 spoke tl awd oem wheel available for exchange.

Also, Acura of Reno claims to have a source to convert the standard wheels to midnight chrome. Last time I called (few months back) they did not have any in stock. Check out the thread below...if you go to the album of the original poster there are more pics to look at. Hope this helps...

If you are willing to have wheels that are not an exact match with the grille then the wheel you posted above or many other after market options could work too. That's what I may end up doing.
