Went into a Blockbuster for about 10 minutes and I walk to my car to see this...

Anyone able to estimate how much this damage will cost? I hope a shop can fix it.

Jealous people out there

This happened to me 10 years ago when kids ran through a parking lot at Ravinia in Chicago and damaged 50 cars. Mine was keyed across the hood and trunk and from fender to fender on both sides. My entire car was repainted with the exception of the roof.

I am sorry to see what they have done to your car!! Its amazing how people have no respect for people's property - We work so hard to earn what we get and this losers do this sort of stuff. That is why I never ever leave my TL unattended or out of sight. If I ever go anywhere where it needs to be left unattended, I take our other vehicle. Now my question...ANY CHANCES there was some security camera near where you were parked? Most places now have these everywhere and if you go back quickly enough, the data might still be stored...Just a thought.

Now to the repairs, fixing it is doable but I hate to say that although when initially done, it will look pretty good and won't be able to tell....chances are, with time, the finish will start to flake and peel. No matter how good the bodyshop says their work will be, it will never bond as well as the paint from the factory.

Is your car a lease or a purchase?

No it won't. the autobody industry is ages ahead of time. If done properly, the repair will actually outlast the rest of the paint. When a car is keyed, it needs to be sanded down to metal, then sealed with an epoxy primer. Just as long as all the edges are scuffed up properly, it will not flake or peel.

I didn't talk to anyone at the shopping center, I just wasn't in the mood to go through the hassle of talking to security. I did notice "skin prints" near the area of the scratches...

I purposely park my car away from everyone else so no one will touch it, but somehow my car stood out to some a$$hole last night

I'm going to talk to my insurance and see what can be done, my brother is actually my agent lol. I can't stand to see the car like this so I'm going to get it to the body shop asap

I purchased the car Weather

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I would definitely go back to Blockbuster asap and see if they have anything on camera. Try to do everything you can to catch this scum of the Earth!

Some people are just a**holes plain and simple. On the other car forum where I am a member, a guy had is car keyed while at work. It turned out that there was a security camera in the lot that picked it all up and it turned out to be an older woman co-worker of all things (everyone on the forum was assuming it was some jerk teenager guy)! Charges were filed against the woman and I also think she was fired but the story is still ongoing.

So you might want to check and see if there was some security camera that caught something in your case. It looks like the jerk that keyed your car took plenty of time to do it deep and in several locations.

Good luck!

Sorry about what that POS did to your car, I'd love to catch him/them!

I'd file a police report, an incident report with blockbuster (if you were on their property when this occurred)I'd also ask BB why the parking lot security let this happen. If you are renting movies in a place that has to have security, i'd look for another place to rent movies in the future. See your brother the insurance agent. Most businesses have security cameras and do your best to get the police to catch the scum that did the damage.

Ask your Acura dealership who does the best body repair in town and have the car professionally repaired. I think that this can probably be fixed so nobody will be able to tell that it ever happened. From past experience, I would guess that $250-300 would cover the damage.

Good Luck!!

Sorry for the hassle with the car. I guess the car-keying contingency is yet another reason to use Netflix instead besides convenience.

Complete losers, some people have no respect for the hard work and sacrifice others make to achieve the things they would like to have. Both of the cars that my wife drives have been hit in parking lots by inconsiderate people who have driven off, this is the kind of stuff that really pi$$es me off.

It's not a bad location either...

I just got back from a body shop that's right next to where I work, and the estimate came out to be $888. Ouch? I'm going to try other body shops around town

Oh, that's around Kirkwood? I know the area fairly well and it's not a bad area.

Good luck on getting that fixed.

Is it the left fender and both doors??

The scratches are on top of the left headlight, left fender and both left doors. Lucky me huh.

Try to turn it into something positive. One night about 10 years ago someone squirted most of the nice cars in my old neighborhood with paint stripper. The Speed 6 got hit in three places on the hood. I used it as an opportunity to get some other minor things worked on, scratches/door-dings, ect.

Maybe now would be a good time to paint that beak. ???

I was actually thinking of doing that, considering it'll probably be cheaper to get all of the work done together.

I would've lost it when I saw that. I also would definitely have BB check the security cameras. For any other reasons to catch the SOB and file charges.
And yes get it repaired ASAP because as time goes by paint fades.
Goo luck.

Ugg - this is just terrible. I hate seeing stuff like this. My 98 Grand Am got keyed when I was in college. It wasn't even that nice of a car, don't know why but someone felt the need...

Sorry that happened to you. The world is full of crappy people. The Jack oxx's that did that probably don't have a job and steal everything they own, while all of us work hard for the nice thing we do have. I have worked in car dealerships and this sort of thing is very common. The good news, with today's paint technology, a good body shop can have your car looking new in no time. As to the price you were quoted, I would have guessed closer to $1000.

Man, that's horrible. I'd want to ruin the person who did that.
I'm sure most of us worked very hard to be able to own and enjoy something nice, and some schmuck just can't can stand it and feels the need to destroy it. This happened to me many years ago. Some jerk keyed my new Integra. The only advice I can offer is to take it to the best shop possible and get it done right.
Best of luck with it.

That's a shame that some folks do the things they do. Good luck with taking care of that. I would ask around to make sure you have the best shop taking care of your baby.

Well I have two options that I'm currently sitting on.

One body shop belongs to a dealership, and their estimate came out to $888. But I do get a 20% off discount because I work at the dealer. So I assuming that price will come out to around $720-ish including tax.

Another independent shop gave me an estimate of $591 after tax. I've used them for the past 5 years for my oil changes but that's the only services I've used them for. From what they said, they plan on repainting the whole panel...

So, I am debating about which shop I should use...

I'd use the dealership - if there's an issue, I'm sure they will be more motivated to make it right vs. the oil change place. Changing the oil vs. major painting = huge difference. And you work at the dealer, so you're going to be around to complain about an issue on a daily basis. I think they'd be more inclined to do a better job... but that's just my opinion.

are you going through your insurance ? or are you paying out of pocket....?

if paying out of pocket then go for the dealership and save yourself the 20%

if going through insurance (i know everyone is thinking this but will mention it) ask the guy to give u a little higher quote so it covers your deductible (am assuming $500)...so if he quotes you 1200 instead of 800...you will get 700 from the insurance which will cover your cost and wont hurt your wallet....

let us know

damn, i thought it was only going to a little scratch, but that's just flat out f'd up! malicious intent...

i hate seeing this type of damage on any car. if i saw that on my car i'd be raging. i've had my car hit in a parking lot (parked) b/c some idiot does know how to park or pull out. suffice it to say i was pissed.

sorry about your car...get it to the shop and she'll be back good as new don't let price dictate the shop you go to. get it done right at a good shop that has an awesome painter.

Good idea to see if the shopping center had any security camera on at the time.

So sorry to see that. Some people have no respect or dignity. In college, I got my chevy s10 keyed..a s10 for goodness sake and someone still wanted to key it.

Anyway, now I try to park near nicer cars or in one of those spaces that only have one space next to it that is not far far away in a secluded area because chances are...those bastards think no one will be watching if your car is parked far away as opposed to parked near the store where there's more people.

buddy sorry to say, it seems like those scratches were more of a targeted attempt than a random dumbfuck that just wants to key your car.. you my friend have a hater.. watch out for your car next time.
