Should I wait for the 2012 TL?

Should I wait for the 2012 TL?
I'm in the market for a new car.
I'm not in any rush to get it -- I can wait a couple of months.
But this is also the end of the month, and deals seem to be good.
Here's my situation:
I was quoted $34.5k for a 2011 Infiniti G37x + Premium + AWD. This looks to be a great deal on that car. And overall I like the car. And the quote expires on monday. I presume I could get the same quote again at the end of febuary or presidents day.
The TL with shawd + tech will be about $38k For that price difference, I'd go wit the G. I actually liked the Acura's interior, technology, and driving better than the G, but the exterior I find ugly (I think the current TSX and 3rd gen TL look much better) --
So the question is, if you were in my position, would you take the offer on the G, or wait a couple of months to see what Acura unveils with the TL? If the exterior is restyled to look 'better', then I'd take the TL over the G.

If you are not in a rush, wait a couple of months, or at least for the spy shots of the 2012 TL at the Chicago auto show to come out.
IMHO, the TL wins over the G37x in terms of overall refinement, smooth 3.7 V6 engine, front and rear comfort, AWD system, handling, tech/navigation, and slick 6MT (the G37x doesn't even offer a manual). IMHO, the only advantage the G37x has over the TL is less polarizing styling.
Good luck!

I test drove a G37 numerous times and owned many Acuras (look at my sig) and currently own a M37S and I can tell you Acura builds a far superior car and I will be back with Acura as soon as I can. The TL is leaps and bounds better than a G37, hell I think the TL is built as good or better than my M37 and Infiniti Electronics SUCK! The G is a great stright line bullit but the TL AWD handles better IMO. I left the TL becasue I grew sick of the 4G grille, but I would wait 8 weeks and get a TL, true you may pay more, but trust me you'll be happier. If I don't take too much of a hit in March I will be back in an Acura

i dont know where you live buddy, but if you bad roads like here in NY, you would be much happier with G.. even with sport suspenshion they drive smoother over bumps and potholes. with acura you gona feel and hear every bump. . not good for 40k car

Buyers regret is more expensive than buying what you want and love for a few grand more. Wait several weeks until the '12's are out. Then you will have the choice of the G, '11 TL and '12 TL. Decide then and move forward.

Thanks for all the replies.
Not kidding -- I'm actually leaning toward waiting to see the 2012, but figured I'd ask a biased crowd.
A decision is relative to money -- maybe the acura is worth 3-4k more than the G. But then the exterior subtracts points from that (in my opinion). And if the V6 TSX was not priced at TL levels, I'd be considering it instead.
Obviously 2012 won't get great deals, but if they come in at invoice and the styling is better I'd go with it. And if they don't, I could re-evaluate.
There's a slight logistically issue in that we're doing a bit of a family car swap -- a sibling is taking my TL. My parents need a car as well, but were going to wait a couple of months. So I can buy my parents car now (a camry) and use it for the couple of months until the TL comes out and decide later (instead of getting the G/TL now and the camry in a couple of months).

of course you should wait, at least until the auto show so you can se whats what.
Also there is no such thing as the quote expires today. Ago old tip to pressure on the fence buyer. Keep a copy of your quote for when you are ready and tell them to match it.

I used to think that the TL was ugly but then it grew on me so much to the point that I actually purchased one!!!
Of course if you ask me, I would say wait for the 12 TL, because I chose the TL over the G sedan in the first place. The G sedan is very nice, but it's just much smaller on the inside, and I thought that the ELS Sound System in the TL was 100X better than the G sedan's system! To me, that is very important because I listen to music a lot when I drive.
Also, the umber interior of the TL is just unbelievable.
Isn't the G sedan due for a major re-design next year? Do you want to drive a "new" car only to find that it's "old" now just after a year?
Just my obviously biased point of view :-)

It's too bad there are so many "haters" out there bashing the grille (and yes, I understand it is a bit of a "negative" compared to other vehicles and I don't 100% agree with the styling direction Acura took with it), but for the performance, value, quality, and interior design as well as overall driving dynamics with SH-AWD capability, you just can't go wrong. Anyone who drives an Acura quickly forgets about the grille.
Acura quality has ALWAYS been a step above Infiniti in my (biased) opinion.... while the G is a beautiful car, the quality is nowhere near an Acura-- and the AWD system is much better on the Acura than the Infiniti which is a dealbreaker to me.
Good luck...

I was contemplating waiting for the 2012 TL as well, but ultimately bought a 2011 TL SH-AWD Tech yesterday. The main reasons were that once the 2012 TL comes out in May (according to my sales man), there will not be much wiggle room in price negotiation and Acura won't offer 0.9% financing for a while. For me, getting 0.9% financing is the deal breaker for me. I don't expect to see 0.9% financing on a 2012 TL until October 2011, which is too long of a wait for me.
I got a 2011 TL SH-AWD Tech for $37,986 for 0.9% financing at 60 months....there's no way I'd get that price on a 2012 TL when it debuts.
Even though it was a tough decision, and without even waiting for February 9th to see what the 2012 TL will look like and the new features, I think buying the 2011 TL at this time of the month makes sense if you want to save thousands of dollars. You can get very good pricing right now (and much better at end of March and April), because my Salesman said they are clearing out all 2011s right now and not ordering any new 2011s.

Congrats on the new SH-AWD. That's a very decent price. Enjoy the car.
Unless you're really hung up about the looks of the front/rear and/or having a 6-speed Auto, the 2011 is a great purchase. We'll know for sure in about a week, but from the spy pix, the front/rear changes to the 2012 do not seem all that pronounced.
Having been to the auto show yesterday, I think I prefer the 2009-11 TL grill to the 2011 TSX and RL treatments, which look a little bland, frankly.

FWIW, I see that for 2012, there will no longer be the beautiful WDP + umber combo - it's replaced by another white (I don't know how one could improve on the beautiful milky, pearly white of WDP!) and it does not come with umber anymore. What a shame!!! I also see that Basque Red is gone (which is OK by me) but then PMM and Grigio are gone too - those are truly beautiful colors. I hope the new grey is nice!
Oh, and if you look at the Acura Canada website, there are very, very few color combos for 2011. I guess they really are preparing for the 2012 launch...
#19
Congrats! You will LOVE the car!!! What color combination did you get? If the 2012 TL has a grille that is anything like the new TSX's (which I expect it is) then it really is not any improvement IMHO. The only thing that is worth waiting for is the 6AT.

No one can speak for you on this because its ultimately your money. The 2011 has $2000 cash back and you get an additional (taxable) $1500 loyalty if youre going from TL to TL. Thats already $ 3500 in savings plus holdback (if youre good). Even if you get 1% of holdback youre miles ahead.
The 2012 will debut on the 9th of Feb and go on sale shortly thereafter but there wont be any money back, nor loyalty rebates, or special financing.
I myself am in the same boat, im 95% decided on another 6MT TL (AWD this time) but im waiting to see if the 2012 will also have more horses and of course to see what it looks like.
Ill have to way the options, drive the old car and save tons or get the new one and not save as much.........

One other point to remember is if you are buying the out going model year it is essentially a 1 year old car at the begininng. Now if you buy and hold for years this is not a big issue, but if you flip frequently what you save on purchase price you may loose some of that when you flip it since the car will be a year older.

I picked up the 2011 TL SH-AWD Tech In Paladium silver with an Ebony Interior for $37,750, that replaces my 2006 TL. For me I keep my cars for 4-5 years and then replace them. The $5700 savings plus 0.9% couldn't be passed up. The 2012 will be a refresh, not a major design change and you will not get deal like this on a 2012 TL.

That was the price with destination charge before NJ took their 7% and the reg fees. It also included the wheel locks and all weather mats, which drops it another 200. It was $400 cheaper that AAA and Consumer reports buying service and when I checked a bout $500 over the true dealer cost which currently runs about 37200 when you remove all the dealer givebacks and incentives that currently exist.
I This the 3rd Acura I have purchased from them ( 2006 TL and 2010 MDX) and the prices are the lowest within 40 miles and service has been ....they also are only 2 miles from my house

Major changes are not happening....The interest rate is like getting free money unless your are paying cash then the savings including the discount are considerable.......... I bought the car based on peformance and beside I like the looks.

An Acura of course...an MDX!
I drive some atrocious back roads on the way to work (~60 miles every day) and the SH-AWD suspension is just too brutal for my cranky grouchy ass After 13 months, she only has 7,000 miles on the clock.
I'm going to miss my manual tranny and the spaceship looks of the TL , but at least I will drive it and I don't have to swerve and avoid land mines (pot holes) every few miles.

The 2012 is still going to be the same car with what my guess is... a smaller shield part with the lower slats to match. The car is still going to have the fugly shape with huge rear end, no way really around that. I bought this car for the same reason many did, features, price, size, etc. I don't really like how it looks, but that's only part of the equation: it's still a pretty nice sports sedan.
Even if you wait to see what the 2012 looks like, I would imagine you will be able get one for near invoice, but probably no rebate. I doubt they are going to go flying off the shelves all of a sudden, just because of a grille change. They need to change the whole shape.

I like the design and style of the 4G so it does'nt really matter to me.

Some smaller cosmetic "defects" are the brake vents near the fog light area on the front bumper. They're too big and wide on the TL and look like 2 gaping mouths, its just ungainly and acura doesn't seem to understand.
IMO, the largest mechanical change will be the introduction of the 6 speed auto, and honestly, most people won't even notice. They will, however, notice the front grill change which should at least bring more people in to look at the car. Regardless of the praise on this forum, lot of people are instantly turned off by the grill. When I take the car out, no one says the grill/exterior looks nice, but they have nothing but compliments for the interior. Another example is, over this weekend, I was showing my mom a few cars she could get to replace her current one. She is looking for an SUV/Wagon/5 door. I brought up the TSX and RDX and her reaction was the same for both, displeased, "but it looks ugly!". She simply didn't like the way either of them looked. I'll assume from her and my friends reactions, that the general public has similar reactions.

You can get even better price than that with a new TL. We've got two Black/Ebony TL SH-AWD 6-Speed w/ Tech & High Performance Tires that we're blowing out this week. We got to see what the 2012 looks like and the difference really isn't anything special. Looks like the front grill off the 2011 TSX and RL.
