Should I trade up to an Acura TL SH-AWD?
Should I trade up to an Acura TL SH-AWD?
Hey guys. Im new to the acura forums but not new to car forums or cars. I currently own a 2007 Civic Si coupe, With bolt ons, stage 4 clutch and 8 lb flywheel, And a tune. The paint on the car is hideous, and honda wont cover it ans want 2500 to paint it. I actually have a custom turbo kit too that i could make around 400 Whp if i wanted to. Its also my DD though, and turboing NA cars always causes problems. So instead im selling my kit and trading in my car. Im considering either an Evo (im not sure whether a gsr or mr yet), an STI wagon, or an Acura TL SH AWD.
My question is this:
Can this car make 300whp easily? Do they make flashpro for the TL? Also, what defects are common with the TL S? I just want honesty. Every car has defects and you can bet im going to be on the subaru and evo forums asking the same question.

the 4g is not going to suit your HP needs. we barely have any parts out so you can either accept the 4g as is or not.. its going to take years for any aftermarket parts to come out.. even a tune.. consider that the 3g tl-type-s just recently came out with a tune.. and the car is a 08!!
if you want something that is good on power.. go for a 3g TL-S.. they have s/c and a tune just recently came out.

Arsenal4Life, looks like you will continue to soup up your next car, right ?
Then the TL is not for you. Naturally-aspirated engines are not very tunable for high hp output, except by going forced induction.
But turbo-charged engines are highly tunable for big hp output.
So rather than waiting for and spending $$$ on an aftermarket supercharger for the TL, might as well spend those money on upgrading the existing turbo hardware on either the EVO or STI.

Basically, the TL is a luxury sedan. You seem more of the stoplight and roll on type of guy. TL is for refinement and technical advancement over performance. I got rid of my 08 TL because it was slower than my 06 Maxima. I replaced the 08 with an 09 and it's still slower than my Maxima. Didn't but it for performance, luxury and technology has the Maxima beat.
I've owned 6 Audis in the past, I also have a 2013 STI. I have the 3.5 Tech TL as a DD and I can tell you it's surprisingly...well surprising. I did not expect this from the TL being my first Acura. It looks great, plenty of power as a commuter, however all your money will go into aethstetics. At the end of the day it's dam good looking "unique" ride if done properly.
Test drive one and if you can, the 6MT shawd. It loves to hug...corners that is.
Feels nimble for such a big body car. But if you're into performance modding, this car is not for you as others mentioned. If you're into luxury and sportiness with a combination of decent power and torque vectoring awd. This is the one. The 335i xdrive w/ the 6MT option was something l considered as well. Those you can definitely mod and are readily available but at a price. I wanted a luxury sports sedan and was sold once I got behind the wheel. Of the choices you mentioned, I would pick the STI. I love the sound of that boxer engine.

Having just coming from an STi that I drove for almost 10 years, I don't think you can put the STi and the Evo in the same comparison with the TL SH AWD. They are all great cars in the own way but the TL is much more refined in its approach to the road. The STi and Evo are raw power and performance. You need to decide what you want when driving and then the choice will be easy. If it driving hard, then (of course) I would go with the STi. If you are looking for the more refined ride, you'll be very apply with the TL SH AWD. I know I am.
Why not keep you Si as a toy and still get the TL. Thats why I have 3 cars.
they all do something different and serve different needs. I love my Miata and it makes me smile every time I get to drive it. There is nothing much out there that can complete with its driving dynamics. However, I love my TL when I driving out of town. Smooth and powerful when I need it to be. My pickup is my rain, snow and hauling vehicle. Thats the way I like to do it.
