SH-AWD diff fluid...

Called up all Acura dealers in town and got quotes for the B16 service. Average price was $280. Honda dealer nearby (Sterling McCall Honda) did oil change + tire rotation & balance + rear differential fluid service for $150.

Wow, such a difference in the price. My car is going to be due for the break-in service soon. At 30% now.

No, there is no display for differential fluid life. The maintenance minder let's you when to change it. It's the "6" service.

Yes, it shows up in the trip computer alerts... You'll see the '6' as part of the service code, like 'B16' . This is the B-1-6 service code where the '6' is asking you to change your differential fluid... Curious, since yours is a 2010, how many miles do you have on it?

Since you're already past the 15k service, the '6' service may have been done on your car as I saw in another thread that you bought yours used. Also, the next '6' service won't be due for a while. Six Shifter mentioned something close to 60k before being due for the second '6' service. Check any service records you got when you bought the car to verify the first '6' service was done.

Just did my B16 Service this evening at 15151 miles with 5% oil life still left on the MID.
Thanks to the detailed pictorial posted here by almostatlowner, it was pretty easy. I needed to use pretty much all of my strength to loosen the darn plugs, but once removed, it was pretty easy. For some reason, I filled 2.75 qts of differential oil and it still didnt overflow. Odd.... Also, did anyone else notice that the drain valve has a magnet at the inner end?

I have a 2012 SHAWD TL and I used DPSF. I dont think you can find ATF-Z1 anymore. Honda discontinued that one last year, I think. Paid 9.78 per qt for DPSF from Acura dealership near me.

Did mine today. Recommend a very long hose so that you only have to thread it into the fill hole once, and then you can stand up and do it without crawling under the car repeatedly. Had mine done at 15000 miles at the dealer and it was pretty cheap maybe $50.00. This time I had 48000 miles when the B16 code came on.

...so I did a diff fluid change and the AWD fluid that I picked up at the stealership was red-ish in color??? ...and you guys are saying that it should be gold-ish?

Did mine at 15K. Easy to do. Just make sure you have an oil bottle pump.

Got service code B16 yesterday on my 12 TL with approx 20,000km. Called a few Toronto Acura dealers and was quoted $321 + tax, but one dealer was offering 15% off the B servicing with a free loaner, so a little over $270 pre-tax - but I guess that isn't too bad since it also includes servicing front/rear brakes...
Replace engine oil and filter.
Rotate tires, inspect for wear and adjust pressure.
Service front and rear brakes.
Inspect parking brake adjustments.
Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots.
Inspect suspension components.
Inspect driveshaft boots.
Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS)
Check all fluid levels, condition of fluids and check for leaks.
Inspect exhaust system.
Inspect fuel lines and connections.
Replace rear differential fluid (4WD vehicles).

B16 service came on at 12,000 miles for me.
I checked with my local dealer and they want $72 for the rear diff. Thought that was a pretty decent deal. I have the Oil Change and Tire Rotation Plan so I scheduled everything for this Monday morning.

got an A16 notification, started looking for Acura DPSF, called up the local acura dealer, said 12 and change for a qt, 4 for both washers. so $40 to get the job done myself. went online to look for something cheaper and found these sites:
Acura DPSF SKU: 08200-9007A
http://acura.bernardiparts.com/Acura...200-9007A.aspx
http://parts.sonsacura.com/cart.aspx
its about $7 to $8 on the sites, but shipping to me in NJ is basically making it the same price..around $36 to $37.
http://www.acurapartswarehouse.com/o...200-9007A.html
DPSF is for $32 shipped. (7.22 a qt +shipping)
does anyone know if dealers price match on parts or fluids?

They have free shipping on every order. No matter how small it is. They are charging $7.63 per quart.

Had the mx minder display the B16 message at 44K. Brought it in to a dealership in the Seattle area and was charged roughly $210. I opted for the B6 because the "1" called for a tire rotation, I have a little over 300 miles on my new shoes so they're in no need of a rotation. I brought my own oil but went with the OEM filter.
For another $140 I had the brake flush added.
Total out the door price with friendly WA Tax for the B6(my own oil) and brake flush was $334 which included a 10% discount.

Did my Rear Diff the other day, told my little brother to take some pics. I used Almostatlowner's guide and it was spot on. only thing id add on to it would be to either buy a torque wrench, to get the 33psi spot on and to open it. tried using my craftsman 3/8 socket, wasnt getting enough leverage, had to use the longer 3/8 inch torque wrench to remove the drain/fill bolts. i also lowered the car back down with the drain bolt open, to get any extra crap out. just like the tranny drain bolt, the rear diff drain bolt has a magnet on it, i cleaned that off before putting it back in.

this is how i knew it was "topped off" you can see the drip points from the over flow in the red circle. figured if the car was jacked up from the back, that it should take a bit extra fluid instead of a bit less.

for those wondering how many quarts (my pump couldnt get all fluid out the bottom, had about 2 ounces left before it was pulling air, so whatever was left, i poured into the last quart and tried seeing how much i could use) had about 4 and 3/4th ounces left. not accounting for the over flow and spillage which occured during the pump transfer from quart to quart.

Just curious!
I don't have AWD so I don't need to do this task but I have followed along for interest! In a former lifetime I was actually a real transmission mechanic, hard to believe. :-)
I commend you guys for taking the initiative.
If you have any DIY capabilities, some basic tools and facilities, you should learn to do this stuff yourself. Great pics in this thread.
The prices the dealers charge for basic service are outrageous MHO. Having said that you do need to be careful and do your due diligence. I would be wary of using non-acura fluid in the diff. Differentials may have clutch packs which are extremely sensitive and need the correctly formulated additives. (I would use any name brand and certified oil in the engine though.) Be careful when re-installing drain plugs and fill plugs. Over torquing is probably the most common mistake that folks make and the results are not good!
Keep up the good work guys and girls.

My car has just under 15000 km and the B16 service code showed up on the MID the other day, so I guess I will be bringing it into the dealership soon. I started the car today and the 6 disappeared leaving only the B1. Is it normal for a code to show up one day and then disappears a couple of days later?

The 6 came back yesterday, but it was short lived as I only got the B1 this morning when I started the car. I hope the 6 shows back up tomorrow when it goes in for service tomorrow.

I got the B16. Just finished replacing the rear diff fluid and engine oil. Pretty easy job to do. I got quotes from the local dealers of which the lowest was a Honda dealer that asked for $130 plus tax. I bought the parts (fluid and washers) from acura express for $22.64 + $11.00 shipping). I wish I had seen that Curry Acura post first
. These are the tools that I used: 1/2" drive breaker bar with a 3/8" adapter (this made easy work of the 35 ft.lbs. fasteners). A Plews fluid pump and a torque wrench. It may have taken one hour to do.![Thumbs Up](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

I'm highly skeptical that there's a difference between the Honda and Acura "dual pump" system fluid, other than the "A" for Acura, which typically commands a higher price. Also, question for you folks who had the service done at a Honda dealership: What does your invoice say regarding the fluid that was used? I doubt they went and got the "A" fluid.
On the other hand, that Curry price with free shipping makes it worth not taking the risk with Honda fluid, even if a very, very small one.

What is the service interval for the AWD differential fluid? I checked the manual and could not find it.
At 96,000miles, I have had the fluid changed twice. Once around 15k and the second around 60k.
