Service Minder

I change my engine oil about every 4k miles. - and the oil life on the dash is re set to 100%.

So here is my question - since I change the oil b4 the car service minder says to do so - does this cause any problems with the service minder later displaying further maintenance due?

The reason I ask is at 19,500 miles - it hasn't shown anything due.

I did the same w/ a 2004 TL and it also (even by 60k miles) never asked for service. (I still had work done like 15k and 30k mi services like older honda's (no service minder) required per the owner's manual)

when you reset it to 100% before it does it should blink what would be needed like a b-1 or 2 or 3 or 6.1 is a rotate 2 would be air filter and a/c filters and 3 trans fluid and 6 rear diff fluid.so if all you have done is oil changes then you should have changed the diff fluid once by now.rotated tires 2 or 3 times.your filters will be coming soon around middle 20k miles usually.once you reset it too 100% it think whatever was due was done and goes from there. At least thats what it seems like.Maybe someone else can chime in too.

when I ask the service writer the same question - I dont really get a clear answer and he says "we usually go by the miles too"

the dealer is the one resetting the oil life - I saw em re set it w/ my last oil change (didn't see it blink any codes)

silver01cltypes I was wondering the same about it resetting for every type service (even if only the Oil was changed)

I have at least rotated the tires 2x.

your dealer is old school there suppose to go by the maintence minder not mileage.your car is awd so you should have had a diff service come up too.it keeps rotating from A service which is just a oil change to a B service which includes a bunch of checks of suspension and brakes components and then there is sub codes next to the A OR B starting with 1 then 2 then 3 and 6 if you have awd there is a code for spark plugs when you get near 100k.Honda made it so there would less oil changes for the customer since some car go up to 8k miles before and oil change the way people drive which makes maintence cheaper.I have only had my car little over 2 months and just over 2000 miles and may just change it around 4000 too since i really do not want to go 6000 or more on a oil change. It should list all of the codes in you owners manual if you really wanted to search threw that big book.i guess some dealers follow there own maintence schedule. To vinnier6 the no scheduled maintence is just a tune up like spark plugs go for 100k because there platnium. You have to change the oil of course and air filter, cabin filters the trans fluid rear diff fluid brake fluid is recommend after 3 years.

silver01cltypes - dealer only said they go by mileage 2 - when I asked the question about the service minder and if early oil changes affect it

They seem sort of taken back that you might do an oil change b4 the car asks for it

Your right about when you reset the oil life to 100% that it should blink any codes for anything needed b4 resetting. But if this is ignored by a tech and just blown past - the owner wouldn't know

they need a system that would say allow you to tell the service minder - only the oil was changed. - reset oil life, but leave other items alone

a system like that would mean more labor spent resetting stuff like with my 7 series. 1 oil change has 70 dollars of labor for resetting the car's computers and what-not besides the oil itself! But as others have said, when you reset it, it will display the codes for the next service before going back to 100%. As well, if you guys check your manual you will see some milage intervals for service. The MID groups them together. For example the rear diff fluid on my MDX was changed at 14K versus the 15K specified in the manual. Others who had an oil change at 12K miles didn't see it, but at 18K when they went in for service they had the code for the rear diff fluid.

csmeance your right - wouldn't want it too complicated and end up paying more. I understand the idea is to group services if needed. (you could go too far and end up annoying owners if you just had it in and not too much later - the car asks for another different service)

just in my case a rear diff change was delayed - only because I was having the dealer change the engine oil about every 4k miles -

I didn't realize until recently that when they reset the oil life - at one point the rear diff code was blown past instead of being brought to my attention. (at least from how I believe the system works)
