Saw the tl comercail today

LOl just saw the 09 tl, comercail today. And i must say how gay it looked and the comercail was gay too. I laughed so hard when they said it's the most powerful acura. I guess they forgot about the nsx, or the 3g tl-s. But if someone did a big ass diet to the tl it just might has some good in it. Atleast take out 1klbs. Then the car will acheive mid 5sec 0-60 times.

These are the engines offered in the NSX:
3 L (2977 cc) C30A V6 (270 hp (201 kW), 210 lb·ft (284.7 N·m))
3.2 L (3179 cc) C32B V6 (290 hp (216 kW), 224 lb·ft (303.7 N·m))

These are the engines offered in the 2009 TL:
3.5L 280 hp (209 kW) V6 (Base)
3.7L 305 hp (227 kW) V6 (SH-AWD)

The new TL IS the most powerful Acura thus far - they didn't say it was the quickest or fastest.

I do have to agree that the first time I saw the commercial, I was disappointed to put it mildly (in the execution of the commercial's concept).

NSX = 270 hp and later 290 hp
3G TL-S = 286 hp

TL SH-AWD = 305

Last time I checked, 305 is more than 290, 286, or 270.

Lol, what the point of having a bigger engine if u don't even go faster then a engine with 270hp and 224trq?

Yup, the 4g TL SH-AWD is the most powerful Acura ever, but definetely not the quickest.

and if the TL lost 1000 lbs, it would definetely break the 5 second mark, maybe around 4.7-4.9.

because the TL isn't a dedicated sports car or semi-exotic, it's not a lightweight all-aluminum vehicle...it has a more powerful engine so it can move a bigger, heavier car without feeling sluggish

From what I've read on Acurazine, the new TL is supposed to be a Luxury Sedan now, not a Sports Sedan as in the 2008's and below. Maybe what's they were shooting for in order to compete with others in that class.

I'll have to agree with some of the posters. Your facts are wrong. The 09 TL has the most powerful engine Acura ever made at 305 for the SH-AWD. The NSX was sports car and much lighter so it is quicker from 0-60. The TL is not pretending to be a sports car. It's advertised a a luxury foremost that's sporty.

You might even call it 'gay' (not that there's anything wrong with that...)

your an idiot! Just by the way you use the term 'gay' to describe something, just shows your intelligence. Whats wrong with the term 'unattractive' or 'unappealing' ? Don't you need to be over 12 to be on this forum!

I actually like the car bigger. Acura can still acheive those 0-60 times. All have to do is give the car a little more power. Look at the 5 series, GS, E Class ect. those cars all have versions that achieve those numbers with similar size. Maybe Acura eventually will go with a V8 on the TL. Who knows? I like the direction they are going with the TL and probably the RL.

I support the reactions against the 'gay' description.
Many people here are very aware and informed about cars, hopefully that will spread to other areas.

LOL... this thread is hilarious, it's those "once in a while threads" that always seem to amuse me.

I'm not going to reiterate what was said bout the engine, we all know it's the most powerful... I wanna see the 305hp SH-AWD against an 07-08 TL-S on tracks.

You're a f'in idiot. Power does not equate to speed as its a pure measure w/o taking into account other variables, such as weight, drag, etc.

My bet is on the 3g Type-S. Sure, the 4g's got Acura's most powerful engine and SH-AWD, but goddamn, it's heavier by 400-500 pounds. good God.

I was talking to one of the sale reps at Acura while waiting for my service and he said the 4G whooped the ISF and 335i on the track at their recent event.

...But then he also said the 4G looked good, that's when I re-confirmed he was bullshitting.

Funny you mention that ballingfizzle, the other day I went down to the Los Gatos (CA) dealership and saw the 09 TL in person. I honestly must say it looks better in person than in pictures. The hideous rear of the car, actually turned to be my most favorite part.

Anyways, my point was that after looking at the car for a good 5 mins (this was around 1030pm), a salesman came out to talk to me. Told me how the awd tl was doing laps around the g's and 335i's. I mean really? It can be possible I guess with the SH-AWD and all. My friends 335i couldn't keep up with an 07 Civic SI (stock) in the mountains, but then again it is a drivers race.

I asked him, "So what's the key advantages the SH-AWD 3.7L TL have on the 07-08 3.5L TL-s when speaking strictly on performance." He responds, "Well, (pauses for 10 seconds) the new TL has bigger rims and tires." Umm, guys aren't 17" optimized for best performance...? haha I mean seriously he could of mentioned a lot of others things, but tires!?

I seriously need to know how a TL-S matches with an 3.7L TL, cept it releases in a month.. let's hope I run into one!

People might argue the point that the SH-AWD system really aids handling ability, but what they forget is that with the new image of the 4G TL is that the suspension is tuned for comfort rather than sport. The TL type-S is tuned for sport, so the TL type-S has the much better suspension components and it also weighs about 400-500lbs depending on M/T versus A/T.

There is one other benefit the 4G TL has that the 3G doesn't and that is the new TL has a better weight distribution, which will help.

Hopefully there will be more 09 TL on the road ... I'd be very interested in finding out about the "race" outcome between 09 TL & 07-08 type-s ...

Another pointless thread.
As we all know it IS the most powerful acura thus far. It is not meant to be the quickest because its 4 door luxury car with some sport in it. If u guys want a fast acura go buy a used NSX or wait for the replacement.....the v10, 550 HP, 7:34 N-ring time, 100+k supercar!

The TL commercials are okay. I really wish they were better though. The one new Genesis commercial touting the the audio system while parked in the water with the Bentley next to it is cool as sh!t.

Agree, As a loyal AcuraZine member they should have hired me to do the wood break.

They could have added a few more wood blocks & having an old fart do the break appealed more to the potential customer base for a more expensive car.

The new TL yes needs to lose some weight, but if they put a 6 or 7 speed automatic than maybe it would be a little quicker as well.
